OT: OP... your question has been answered multiple times... Your beloved friend is about to get fired if he doesn't haul, lol. -
It always amazed me that a new driver could spend 3-8 weeks with and trainer and not know how to log when he/she goes solo. I had a friend that I went through orientation with back in the day. He had been on the road for a couple years before coming on with the company. I saw him at the same Charlotte terminal about 7 weeks later sitting in the drivers lounge. I approached him and noticed that he wasn't looking like the same "nutty & fun" guy that I spent orientation with. He told me that our fleet manager had pulled him back to the terminal for a "review" and possible termination. After talking with him a while about what was going on, I found out he was only averaging 1500 miles per week. I was curious as to why so few miles, because I was rolling pretty good. Come to find out, it was because of availability issues. The company was thinking that he didn't want to run because of laziness....or what ever. We had lunch together while he was waiting on for his review that afternoon. We were discussing everything we have experienced with the company in our short time there. The conversation briefly touched on...........waiting forever to unload at "Wally World" distribution centers. He said those places were killing his hours? I asked why that was a problem because I have been there long enough on a few occasions to reset my driving hours. Come to find out.............he was logging on duty not driving while waiting to be unloaded. I thought he might have misspoken, so I asked him why he was logging on duty. I didn't take but a couple more minutes to realize that the guy didn't have a clue how to use the sleeper as a tool for managing his hours. He didn't know how to calculate picking up hours after midnight each day as well. Luckily our fleet manager was a retired Marine who liked to bust my ( fill in the blank) every day about being a retired sailor. I called him on his cell and told him what was going with this guy. He arranged for my buddy to hang out at the terminal for a couple days to go through a heavy crash course of logging. They took him through everything.......multi drops & hooks, shippers & receivers, terminal time, etc. etc. He did fine after that, and is still driving today. Me........been out of the truck for quite a while.

Somebody please explain it nice and clear. As far as I know, you are suppose to have 34 hours restart after working 70 hours. It says on my log paper that if you meet the 34-hour restart requirements, you have 60/70 hours available again. So let's say I did 68 hours, went to do restart, how can I be called back to work after 20 hours if I did not meet the 34 hr requirement?
-
it is too much to just state in a sentence
lets start with it is 70 hours of lines 3 and 4 in 8 days
if you never go over 8 hours of driving per day you just gain the hours on day 9 from day 1
whoever your driving for you should admit you dont know how to log to be efficient
they want their freight moved so efficient trucks are a given -
Wouldn't it be cool if they taught math, reading and comprehension in schools once again?

What is so complicated about this? How did trucking get anything done prior to the 34 reset? Of all the stuff that the FMCSA has come up with, this 34 thing has really caused more misconceptions than anything I can think of. -
Cowpie1-How did trucking get anything done prior to the 34 reset?
I believe, Then we were correlating our data, while doing duplicate work. In doing so, i believe the errors observed were not from the administrative duties but from our operational duties...all coming from more of a personal reflection not based from a Carrier's Safety Dept Review...im pretty sure. -
There is no law nor rule that mandates a reset/restart. The company can require you to reset/restart but it isn't a law. It is an option. You can run on your recap indefinitely.
