I got a request from a GOOD occupational health doc working on a disability rating for a driver injured in an accident. The injuries resulted in his having to use a CPAP.
"Do you know of source of even anecdotal data about the impact that a diagnosis of OSA has on the ability of a commercial driver to be employed, accomodated, and retained in commercial driving? I have a really unusual work-related OSA case in a driver (d/t trauma) and the only really systematic guide I have to impairment estimates in OSA is the rather odd DOD Blue Book."
In working with him there is NO good research or information on the topic.
I see lots of threads here complaining about sleep apnea. I have a possibility for you to actually do some good.
If you have suffered economic impacts from having sleep apnea go to Myapnea.org. Register your information and post to the thread on this topic in their forums. If you have dealt with having to get tested and found to not have sleep apnea post your story.
MyApnea.org is a research site for sleep apnea patients. It collects information for medical researchers to use in developing studies and collecting data.
Now...stories like the thread here about the driver getting fired for not bringing their CPAP to orientation won't do any good. It's where you did everything right and still got messed with that will do some good.
Thanks.
Economic impacts of sleep apnea..... a way to do some good.
