Strange letter came in the mail last week. It was from the State of Florida, told me my D/L was suspended, effective 6 days before I got the letter.
Now I had no idea what the problem was, the last citation I received was about 5 years ago, and the few weight tickets I get I pay promptly. Went to state website and ran my license, it was shown as suspended.
Read the letter, said my truck insurance was not in affect. Hmmmmmmmmm, I knew I had been paying my insurance payments, could not imagine what the problem was. It was after 5 pm, so my agency was not open. The agency offers a website where I can get a certificate of insurance shown, and print it up as I need it. Could not access my policy, as I had in the past.Worried about it all night.
8 am the next day, I called my agent. They are a large, trucks only outfit, good company, and have me insured with a very well known major company.. I have used them for about 20 of my last 35 years of owning trucks. Very dependable. The receptionist who answered my call said " MARY is handling 'those problems ' after explaining my situation. When she said ' those problems ', I took notice. MARY listened to me, said she knew how how to fix it,that I had done nothing wrong, and it had been taking about a day to get the problems fixed. I said NO, I need it done NOW. She said give her a while, and she would call me back.
10 minutes later, she called , said all was corrected. Would not tell me what the problem was, other than to assure me I had been covered the whole time.
I promptly went down to our local State of Florida tag / license office, where I know the manager. He ran my license and tags, and told me the problem was the policy I presented when I got my tag re-newed was incorrect, somebody at the insurance office had screwed up something, but all had been corrected.. After what I was told by the agent, seems like this affected more than just me.

I tell everyone this story to remind you to keep track of your license, tags, all paperwork. Had I been OTR and gone from home, i would not have found out about this until a LEO had me stopped.
It would do no good to mention company names, it was just some mistake, and everybody makes them. Problem is in the trucking industry, we often wind up paying for others screw-ups, and I get tired of that.

I would have a face to face (if they close enough) talk with the owner of agency.

Glad, You had it fixed right away.

It only takes 1 NUMBER or LETTER to be wrong in a policy # to screw things up, and a lot of the people do not think to recheck #s before sending out the info , had that 1 time trying to register a new vehicle it came up as STOLEN because DMV clerk put the last 3 digits of the VIN in wrong

...which is why I don't like the idea of tying drivers licenses (ESPECIALLY CDL's) to vehicle registrations and insurances or anything else that isn't driver-specific. I've got a friend who found out his CDL was suspended for not being home to have his personal vehicle emission tested on time...and he found out at a chicken coop in another state. I have several personal vehicles, and if at any time I choose to park one and cancel the insurance, I shouldn't have to worry about the state revoking my ability to work or drive one of my other vehicles which are still insured.

Years ago I was the terminal safety manager for A car hauling carrier.
Got a call at about 10PM one night about a driver being arrested and a truck with 9 new cars on it was towed and impounded.

The driver was stopped for a tag light out and when the fuzz ran his license it came back suspended.

He has recently changed auto insurance companies on his personal car and the old company reported to his home DMV that his policy was cancelled,,his new insurance company notified DMV that he had a new policy.
Problem was the DMV mistakenly filed his new insurance and it was not listed on his car.
Maryland will automatically suspend an owners drivers license if an insurance policy is cancelled.
It only took about 30 mins to clear up the problem and the driver was released by 10AM the next morning and all charges were dropped.

THe cost,,$600 tow bill and a night in jail for the driver.

Under the law the driver could not sue the state DMV for a clerical error..

Sorry we are government and we hire stupid over paid employees and that's life.

My supplemental cancer which auto-deduct from my checking account did not post the beginning of the month like normal. I called them and suddenly I get an E-Mail stating it was restarted. Now my concern is as with most insurances you have a "waiting" period. Did this null and void my prior years with them and they see this as a new policy. I called and left VMS, but no return calls yet. I will be calling again and requesting a letter stating the error was their fault and it does not affect my policy for any waiting periods.

at one point and time. don't know if it still exists. but you couldn't get insurance unless you had a license, and you couldn't get a license unless you had insurance. in utah.

if you don't have insurance, your plates under the insurance get suspended. your license is untouched. don't know what would happen on a cmv though.

The key to your successful outcome is the fact that you pay attention to your business, act accordingly as a professional, IN PERSON, not with silly assed phone calls, and get the response needed. You realize how important all this is.

I get sick of hearing of similar stories on this site, but as you read them the individual did not take responsibility for his actions, all to way to " I didn't think a felony was a big deal"

    Good for you.

And don't forget, they can ALSO suspend your CDL [without much of a notice, if any] if you (or someone at your carrier) forgets/neglects to send current Medical form to the state DL office (self-certify)
