Back in the day it was not unusual for a guy to have licenses from several states. This was before the CDL. You showed the cop the one from the state that had the least amount of tickets. I'm sure some of the older guys can confirm this. When the CDL came into being along with the computer network all the states tied into a lot of divers found new jobs.

That is a state law, not a federal one. Montana makes you do that for any license.

if i remember right, it has to do with immigration.

used to be easy to just get a license, or identification.

now you have to prove that you are a legally born citizen and actually live in the state. we had to supply birth certificates. but it was a one time deal. once you were in teh new system your good to go from there on out.

Yes it is but it is still the states doing this, not the feds.

On July 6, 2015, new federal standards for commercial driver's license (CDL) knowledge and skills testing and the issuance of commercial's learner's permits (CLP) will take effect as set forth below

It's says federal, but can't find any info online.

all of those things started with 9/11 and stricter guidlines to everything. I couldn't open a bank account in Green Bay until i could show a dated lease agreement.
The transient homeless trucker which i was part of used to be able to establish residency with just a wave but it is all different now

These new regulations are causing students a headache. I passed my skills test in Indiana on Monday, but I am just now finding out I will have to retake the skills test in my home state of Tennessee. Really frustrating.

Kind of reminds me of when I got a NC state ID for my 2 yr daughter. They asked me if I had any utility bills in her name showing her address. Birth Certificate had the address, but they did not accept that. We finally had to pay $10 to have a letter notarized saying she lived with us.

This requirement is in place in Arkansas, as well. The form is titled ' Citizenship Verification'.
