Im a otr driver. I'm a army veteran. Machine guns and hand grenades did not transfer to this suck ### life so now im a trucker. Why cannot I carry guns and booze in my sleeper. I am not breaking any laws with either. If a nutcase is on the loose I have a gun. If I want to drink in my berth off duty well then what is the god #### harm in that? This doesnt make sense to me to be this regulated. Im never home but I kind of feel imprisoned. Who ever passed these laws and why? The truck is like my home and people with homes have guns and booze.

The truck is almost like being a convicted felon taking away my rights just because Im a trucker. Does the government understand we live in these trucks and rarely go home?

There is no law that says you cannot have a firearm in a commercial vehicle. There is a law for alcohol though.

I thought they banned weapons from the barracks, they probably don't allow booze either.

Looks like the military prepared you for this job.

Maybe the company you work for doesn't allow it, however that doesn't mean it's against the law. There is a discussion every week about this. There is nothing in the little green book concerning personal firearms. Traveling with your firearm in a truck is the same as traveling in a car.

Got pulled into the scale at Brownsville, TN years ago. DOT man stood on the running board and aked what was in the cooler. I had pop in the cooler, but he went ahead and checked the sleeper and came out of the truck with 5 cans of beer. He asked me why I had 5 cans of beer in the sleeper, and I told him, because I didnt want to drink a whole 6 pack, but also didnt want to pay 2.00 for one beer at a tavern.
The fine was 100 per can of beer and he shut me down for 24 hrs.

So if your going to drink in your sleeper, make ###### sure you drink it all! ;)

Thats just ######## man. You were sober when he did it too. Its just crazy to me that in theory you did nothing wrong but were fined hundreds of dollars. I dont get it I never will.
