In the "what to expect at your DOT physical" section of my website, there is no mention of a rectal exam, EKG, nor collection of blood.

In rare cases, these might be necessary, depending on what was found.

There is a syndrome called "white coat syndrome" where your blood pressure is only high when it is read at the doctor's office. To prove that you have "white coat syndrome" instead of real high blood pressure, you need repeated, documented blood pressures that are in the normal range at home.

A DOT examination is supposed to be different from a normal examination - the DOT exam is to record existing diagnoses and determine driver certification status. If something new is found in the DOT exam, best practice is to have another physician determine and treat whatever issue arose. This eliminates a conflict of interest for the examiner, and prevents incentive for further (possibly unnecessary) testing.

In summary, your test appears a bit unusual, but then again i don't want to second guess because i wasn't there, and don't know the details.

Thanks Doctor for your reply-I just found out that my wife was the cause of this. It seems always to busy to go for my yearly exam, so she called before dot exam and told my primary about this. So, he did both and I had trouble sitting. Thanks Dr. and town drunk-Mike

DOTPhysical, the most hotly contested and misunderstood medical issue these days on here seems to be Sleep Studies. How do you interpret Your responsibility on this matter when performing Dot physicals?

If you respond to this question, please be prepared for the potential backlash. Thx.

That makes sense - 1 regular check up and 1 Dot physical. Glad your regular doc took the time to register - many I know are not getting certified to do DOT exams. I think we will see more outfits that pop up focusing on catering to those who need Dot exams, like I have done.

Oh boy - a can of worms is about to be opened. Not one I care to open while typing on my phone. I'll adress this issue tomorrow from my regular computer.

How many of you are getting sent for sleep studies, and what are the results of the sleep studies? For instance - how many are getting sleep studies that did not show that you had sleep apnea?

Do us all a favor and start a new thread specific to this topic tomorrow. There's dozens of experts on here without medical degrees that must have all stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. You can't open a can that is already open. Some of us would just like to know the truth as to the guidelines examiner's are currently required to adhere to. Thx again.

My company's examiner did require me to take a comprehensive Sleep Study that my company paid for. I am diagnosed with OSA.

I was recently out on disability for mental health. I returned with full clearance to perform my work duties without restriction. I was diagnosed with ptsd and depression. I was told I have to be restricted for one year and that I can only work part time on the dock. Hence losing a lot of pay and benefits. Being that ptsd and depression are a disability, am I being discriminated against by not maintaining my pay and hours during this bs disqualification period? I feel like I have been screwed.
