Hey everyone, this is my first post but I've been lurking for a long time. Im hoping this is the right place for this question. Anyways I used to be OTR and finally ended up getting a new local job. My question is, my employer requires at least a cdl b to be hired here. My best friend has been a fire fighter for 11 years and has a FM123 license in order to drive the bigger fire trucks. Im trying to get him a job with me and im hoping the state of Michigan has a different way for a fm123 license holder to go about getting his cdl b or even cdl a. Im hoping its just a quick written test at Secretary of state instead of the actual in person physical test. Anyone ever hear of or go through something like this? Im going to assume he has to go and get it the same way we all did but i really don't know for sure. State of Michigan website isn't helpful in the least. Anyways, Thanks for any input and for reading!

Call the sos office and ask them.
that said I feel everyone should either go through a road test or no one should have to. -
Welcome to start with!
Here I'm pretty sure you have to do the same testing as we did. I only assume that would be across the board. -
Yeah i agree completely that everyone should have to take a skills test. However the skills test is unfortunatly a bad joke and by no means proves you're a good or safe driver. He had to go through testing for his current license. Considering what the test itself is, it seems a bit redundant. This is about hopefully cutting a cost not looking for an easier path. Thanks for the comments.
