The Trucking Industry has to protect it's Image! It's not about safety.....there are millions of people who take Rx meds legally and drive under the influence, yet we as Professionals are held to a higher standard. When they mandate hair testing, there's no choice other than stay clean or quit driving a CMV.....So those using dope need not apply!

There may be quite a few truck drivers pushing 60, HOWEVER, are you sure that the average age of a truck driver is pushing 60?

Some company's will go back as far as 5 years. I think that's a little ridiculous....

Synthetic urine is easy to use to fool pee tests. Chop off your hair and let it grow for a few months before doing a hair test. And obviously don't use drugs in those 3 months. Then just stop using drugs completely so you don't have to worry about it. Getting baked isn't worth losing your career.

No matter how hard the trucking companies try to regulate human behavior.....people will still do what ever they want.

Not for drugs. If you failed a test or got DUI, yes they will. And they should.

Just to be on the safe side, the companies may want to also draw a vial of blood. The vial of blood will also check for any diseases & health conditions, in addition to checking for any illicit use of drugs.

If the employee is totally drug free, which is GREAT, but has some other serious health condition, the the employee may have to be pulled from his or her driving position. The employee could possibly be a candidate for other types of employment at the trucking company as dispatching, administration, or perhaps on the loading docks.
