hi, I'm new in OTR driving and I'm paid per mile, but when I turned in my first invoice I added all the miles that my GPS gave me, loaded and unloaded but the company is giving me a lower number saying the count the miles by postal zip codes of the addresses so what is the correct and legal way, please help me understand
    Thanks

unfortunately that's what most companies use. sometimes if the mileage from a certain city to a certain city is really really off they will adjust it but don't hold your breath. back in the day they used to use the household movers guide but I don't believe they use it anymore. actual miles are sometimes referred to as hub miles but I don't know any carriers that still pay hub miles

My company is a contractor. They use the zip code miles. If there is an accident and we need to detour causing extra miles I can put in a request as long as I provide backup like GPS data.

Yeah that's trucking….drive 10,000 mi a month, get paid for 9500. Oh yeah, don't forget, most truck related duties are on you ! Like, fueling, dropping trailers, paperwork, hanging around the shop while your truck gets worked on, phone calls, doing "favors" for your dispatcher etc. Have fun !:laughing-guffaw::smt022

That zipcode to zipcode pay is BS. I get paid practical miles from customer to customer. You never get paid for all miles.

The company gets paid the same way for the load. So it's really just the way it works.

Or they could pay you less on hub miles.... but in the end your gonna get paid xx to run the load, just like the company is getting xx.
