If you are owner operator and not working for any paticular company you keep them and wait for DOT to audit you.

If you are signed on with a company, that company should be requiring you to send in the logs so you would need to call them and ask!

Then I believe you are responsible for your paper work and DOT could audit you. Not really clear if you just have one truck.

Yes, she is correct. When you work for someone else or are leased on to another carrier, the carrier who's authority is registered with the DOT is the one subject to an audit. That is why in the past you would have to send your paperwork (logs) in to them...in case THEY got audited by the DOT. Now, that you are the owner of the authority, then you need to keep copies of your logs on file so that ,not if, but when the DOT should decide to audit you, you can provide this information to them.

I believe within 6 months to 1 year DOT is supposed to do an audit, it usually is one they tell you what you are doing wrong etc and then re-audit (if anything was found wrong) you again to make sure you fixed the problem.

It's on the FMCSA website somewhere
