SIgning to get your check will not prevent you from suing them as it is signed under duress, which renders it invalid.

Some yrs ago had a friend that hauled gas and was a go getter, Owner got mad cause he was making so much money and told him he would have to take a cut in pay ? So he drove into another company's lot gave his story and they hired him on the spot . Owner took over driving and on 1st load had a bad wreck and blew/burnt up . .... One year later to the day the owner's oldest son is stoned with some friends and are running out of gas , so the pull up next to a pickup at a high school basketball game and start stealing gas, by sitting in there car with a can in the floor board, ( long hose ) . No ones around so he gets out puts the gas in the cars tank , throws the can in the trunk , starts to get back in the car and lights up a joint. I was called to tow the car to the lot, found out the next day my wife had been working for the younger brother . .............................................................................................................

Oh they will help you if you call.. But if you are challenging them on a call or citation an officer made is a different story. I think this is what the poster was meaning. And it's funny how it changes from state to state. Please, don't take my word for it... Example: Call DOT in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin(the numbers are in your motor carrier's atlas). Ask, each to explain how they calculate bridge on your truck, and how they measure it... to comply with bridge laws. Take notes and ask questions... You will be shocked to find that 2 or 3 of them do it differently and will produce different results and they don't follow the bridge laws that you have in the FMCSA booklet... I have done this and found it truly interesting.

Gas hauler did a good job of explaining above... but this is one thing I've found helpful. After you set up your cones and are getting ready to put your hoses on for a station drop... Get out your Fire extinguisher and place it right by where your gonna stand by your drop(your gravity dropping fuel/gas into and underground tank). Why do this? It lets the idiots around there know that you are doing something a tad dangerous, and will generally stop the goofball with a lit cigar/cig coming up to you to beatch about high gas prices... or ask for free gasoline.

thanks for that info because my husband has a situation with the company he works for right now, he is in Oklahoma city and a huge ice storm came through his truck was hit by a country stars tour base due to the ice, luckily the only damage done was the drivers mirror was taken out, needless to say that even truckers who have been driving for 40 years are telling him that they are not driving till the roads are safer also I think there is a state of emergency due to the ice storms and my husband has to drive to NJ , these ice storms are going in the same path. Long story short my husband called the company to advise them of the ice and mirror situation he was told by the owner to drive anyway mirror or not or he and his partner will be fired, mind you this company does not offer insurance of any kind to employees they don't even take taxes out of their pay check they just deposit checks in their bank accounts and they are driving that companies equipment and going where they are told to go by the company. This is the second time they were told to drive with an unsafe situation the first time was there was a short in the truck somewhere causing all the lights not to work when a trailer was hooked to it which made driving at night unsafe they were told by the company to drive anyway or be fired . is there somewhere we can report this to cover both my husband and his partner in case something happens and they are fired by the owner of the company also isn't there a dot law about driving unsafe equipment ? my husbands license is his livelihood so he will protect that .
