That's just completely messed up! Sounds like a pretty disorganized office staff.

there may be liabilities if the broker dispatches you directly and there is an accident of any kind. your company should be your link between you and the broker. You do call your company when you pickup, deliver, etc. dont you?

No doubt. Why bother with the expense of the system if you are not going to use the tool.

Sounds like they are just being a PITA about check calls . . . the driver or company makes the check calls, not the darn broker calling the driver.

youre right. but there can be a liability if the broker dispatches the driver directly.
some yrs ago a huge brokerage and i am not naming names, dispatched a driver instead of the driver's company dispatcher. the driver had an accident in which there were fatalities. the insurance co. went after the broker for directly dispatching the driver, the driver, the driver's company, and even the shipper. the broker was sued and had to pay millions and the driver's company was sued and had to pay. if the broker hadnt dispatched the driver they wouldnt have had any liability.

I haven't heard any specific cases of that, but had been told to watch what kinds of things are done. I was told to not even schedule the actual pick up and delivery times.

hey, i have a friend who is looking for warehouse space and local cartage in nyc. what borough are you in? do you have any of the old APA people working for you? dont think the brokerage would be of any use since you have your own trucks, safe to assume you use them for cartage and local work? is your company union? let me know, thanks
