Weight Enforcement Cameras

On a bulletin board of a lumper's office in Hatfield MA. there is a newspaper article about weight enforcement cameras that work much like red light cameras. Sensors will be in the roadway and as trucks pass over the truck will be weighed and if overweight a picture of the license will be taken and a ticket issued. Has anyone else seen anything abut this? Is this about to happen? I don't think MA has started yet but if the press knows about this then it is probably going to happen.

Funny you asked.....
I just saw some type of new sensor recently installed in the pavement just before a rest area where DOT likes to work. There was a pole going up and over the road, but nothing attached to it yet. It'll be interesting to see what it is.
I'm pretty sure the PA turnpike charges tolls based on how heavy you are. I don't remember how involved their sensors are at the tollbooths though....

Technology is making it harder an' harder to be an outlaw !!

I would not put it past goverment to do anything to make a buck.. It has nothing to do with safety (as the recent Texas stop light cameras being removed proved) Its all about the money $$$$$$$$ I hope one day we are able to take our goverment back and stop this non sense

I think this would be a good thing. This way, since all it does is snap a picture and send a ticket, this allows you to go somewhere and weigh it yourself afterwards so you can dispute this camera's findings.

That's IF you see the setup - probably not a problem today, but in 5 years, something like this could be effectively invisible - a van/car off the side of the road. If they were *really* smart, they'd set up near a stoplight where you can easily mistake the sensors for a stoplight trigger.
