If you're on the court docket, get your affairs in order because the hangman is sitting in judgement.

But, in the meantime, should I log the time in the jury box as line four? How about the commute, the recesses, lunch at the courthouse, and bull sheetin' with my fellow jurors?

My first instinct is to log it. It is like working another job, kinda'.

On the other-hand, it can be time consuming, and, I'd hate to call the boss when it's over to announce that I was through, but, had no hours available because I had burned them at the courthouse. Somehow, I don't think he'd get it, and wouldn't see the merits of my position. He'll be wanting me to double up to catch up, not take a break.

2xR, I think if you tell the people there at the court house you do not want to be there, you will be excused. Btw, I got paid 21 dollars for my jury duty.

    Kinghunter -

I've never ever been aware of any situation where a prospective juror can say "I don't want to be here" and be excused. If you could, the jury box would be empty.

2XR - yeah, you are being paid to work.. (paid **SQUAT**, but paid). It goes on line 4. If you want to be completely honest. Now, what might be interesting is if you are sitting on a case that 1) takes more than 14 hours in any given day and/or 2) they sequester you for multiple days. How is THAT logged, since you are on duty for more than your allotted hours. I suppose Sleep time might be logged as off-duty, since you aren't in the sleeper.. but every waking moment is on-duty until the verdict is delivered and the jury is excused.

I don't see anything in the FMCSR declaring jury duty to be a special case, either. 395.2 Definitions. On Duty Time. (9) Performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier.

I think your best hope might be to present yourself to the lawyers in such a way as to be refused by one of them. Of course, how you can do that is a variable. It'll depend on the case you're chosen for.

OK my question is, since some jobs (local tankers hauling gas, for example) pay an hourly rate rather than miles would there be any logging in that scenario? Also some employers (at least outside of the trucking industry) actually pay your regular hourly wage for jury duty as part of your benefits... do any trucking companies offer this? And what happens to your truck... does the company slipseat you? (BTW, the fastest way to get off of jury duty is to tell the attorneys that you have experienced a similar crime personally, and would be prejudiced against the defendant.)

Only if you are called for a criminal trial.

In my county if I was selected for criminal case i would might be exempt since i know a lot of people. On the other hand, for a civil I might not as their is no way out of this unless the companies involved have had your prior business like my jury duty. Thank goodness. Interesting one too as the mother of a daughter was suing a funeral home for cremating her daughter thanksgiving.

I wouldn't consider jury duty a job or work. It is a civic duty.
