It's logged as "On duty, not driving" - UNLESS your company releases you from duty. Then you can wander over the the nearest Wendy's or movie theater - and log the time as 'off duty'. OR, if you crawl into the sleeper and get a nap - then, of course, it's line 2. It could happen! As for worth it? Well, my take on it is: no. Risking my livelihood for a few bux strikes me as .. well, not to put too fine a point on it, stupid.

Some companies will expect it, without saying that in so many words, others will demand it, again without appearing to. Other companies will fire you so fast if they catch you that you won't land for several miles. What the others said would be appropriate depending on what kind of place you find yourself at. What Lurchgs said will prevail if it ever gets to a court of law

So rather I log it " Off Duty" or " On Duty Not Driving" it still counts toward my 14? If so I guess thats why these guys rip it out and back it up. But how do they do that?

Ok once you enter lines 3 or 4 (after # least a 10 hour consecutive break) that starts your 14 hour! Now lets say I go down to either driving or on-duty # 8:00 am. My 14 hour is going to end # 10:00 pm. The ONLY way to drive passed that 14 hour mark is to First thing is: Say you are split breaking & second thing is to EXTEND the 14 hour clock you must have 8 hours in the sleeper (yes it MUST be all in the sleeper and 8 hours consecutive). So the answer to your question on the 14 hour rule is yes it counts (it would count regardless of where you logged it) Lines 1,2,3 & 4 count against that 14 hour clock (once you start the clock anyhow). Now if you are # a cutomer it's pretty clear it's going to take some time to deal with paperwork, checking equipment etc so you must log the time you are "actually" dealing with it on line 4. Now they don't want you on the dock then the BEST way to handle this is to take your BODY and go to the SLEEPER. This way you are logging legal and you don't have to log it on line 4. It's rare you can log OFF DUTY (LINE 1) while at a customer. Possible but very rare! Let me add: In the 14 hour period all DOT cares is that you do not DRIVE OVER 11 hours. You can be on line 4 (on-duty) all you want passed that 14th hour The key thing to logging is don't log it illegally and your log should # LEAST reflect the location you was # for the amount of time you was there. If you forget to log line 4 It is a false log in DOT's eyes and are checking more for this during an internal (office) DOT audit now!

It's learning it and wanting to learn it and once you get it, it's simple! DO you have powerpoint on your computer? Do you have word document? IF so go to the sticky threads within the regulations and there is a sheet explaining split breaking and much discussion. Then ask questions on the thread and # least it gives you something to start with.

Once you complete the 8 hour break your 14 hour will start from the end of the 2 hour break or longer. So you go to the end of the previous break (where you had a minimum of 2 hours or more) and count over 14 + 8 = 22 hours. THat's when your new 14 hour will end. Driving time after that 8 hour break is going to be Driving time in between the 8 & 2 hour break - 11 = # of hours you have available to drive "after" your 8 hour break. As long as that driving time is done before your "new" 14 hour is up. I have examples posted. I can't post any examples (of log grids) due to being on my sons computer and mine is about #### now.
