went over the 70hr rule-how do I log this?

Due to a mis-calculation, I went over the 70hr by 45 minutes. I realize this will cause me to be in violation each following day if I run out my maximum hours for each day. My question is...can I just shut down 45 minutes early one day hence making up for that 45 minutes I ran over? If I can do this, how do I log it? I have to 'erase' those 45 minutes that Id still be left with, right?
I tried calling my log dept but the office is closed for the weekend. Any advice other than to check my math next time? TIA~

You are in violation. Take your 34 reset.

if you try to fix it over the next few days or even go back and rewrite you might mess up even worse. your best bet is to do a restart and make sure you note the violation. that way when your log dept or even dot sees it they see you aren't trying to hide it or anything else so they won't go looking for more violations. just try to be more careful and remember add twice write once.

I cant do a restart right now due to being under a load. I have already fixed the broken log book(the same day it happened), but my company(Im sure) will still know I went over my 70.

To clarify, I have a 100% legal log book right now. The problem lies with the company knowing I went over my 70.

There is really nothing you can do about the log. You went over by driving at that is where the violation happened. If you had went over the 70 due to on duty not driving time, there would be no log violation.

Your only choice here is to take the 34 hour restart. This creates new driving hours of 70. Contact your safety department on Monday and let them know. They will give you the guidance they want you to use.

I am sure you will not be the first driver to be in this situation. It comes with the job.

After 7 days, it will be gone from your log book and you can breathe easier.

He probably does not need to do a reset. However, it is possible to have went over the 70 hours and the next day would give you -0- hours more to drive. In that case, a reset is the better choice.

your right but just to get more technical they would have -45 hours to drive since they violated the seventy by 45 minutes. and thats why they really need to do a reset because any other way is just to much of a headache. sure you can rewrite the log book pages so it looks legal but most companies have you send in your daily work hours over the qualcomm and if you change your logs then now they don't match each other and if anything happens and dot looks at this then you are guilty of falsifying your log book.
