So the way I understand it is if you are sleeping in you truck it's ok to
    be idling.

It is true in the 3 state listed in the article. Florida you can for a few more years.

Not true in California, you can idle 5 minutes every hour.

In New York, below 25 degrees.

Each state needs to be examined.

think about alaska in the summer and think of AZ in the winter:biggrin_25525::biggrin_2551:
I have idled anyway out in california at the truckstop there were 100's there most were idleing how are they going to get everyone:biggrin_255:.
If the cops walk up to your truck and try to write you a ticket all you have to do is ask them what evidence thay have that you have been idleing more than 5 minutes.
You just started up your truck after going inside using the bathroom and are fixing to leave.
How can they prove it unless you are dumb enough to see the cops walk by 5-10 minutes earlier with your truck idleing and continue to sit in that place idleing.

I do not belive they have enough cops to enforce the no idleing policy.
As long as no one complains I think you are safe.

I have sat idleing in the same spot for 1.5 days and was never messed with.
Of course the truck could not hit the road due to the problems with the wiring harness that controls the engine throdle my trainer and i had to wait for the appoinment time to limp his truck to the shop next door.
A week later he got fed up with the shop and got assigned a different truck.

390.9 - basically says state/local can enact laws that do not contradict the FMCSR
