Sounds to me like someone has 'splaining to do to someone and they are missing logs.

Heh, I was looking through some boxes and found some of mine from 1992.

My carrier audits logs every month but it seems like they match logs to Qualcomm info every few months . I have gotten letters asking questions about logs several months old . An example is I once stopped in for about 30 gallons of fuel where fuel was high then topped off in another state a couple of hours later . They got me for not logging the 10 minute fuel stop 3 months later .

Would I be correct in guessing that you work for SNI? Looks like it from your pic.

That is one of the areas they ding you is fuel stops. For every fuel stop you make and use the comdata card, the stop needs to be noted in the logbook. Not just the big fill ups, but every one. I havent been dinged for it yet, but I usually mark the days I fuel and the put a note on the days I dont fuel..."no fuel stop"...etc.

I deliver freight to another driver and he got a note from HQ saying he marked down the wrong time for his fuel stop...etc.

Anywho...as far as this thread topic...Im missing two logs from March and May...can't find the logbooks myself. I called the reg department and they told me it would be satisfactory to them if I just faxed or mailed in a note explaining the situation.

Right but drivers are only required to save them for a couple of weeks. Companies need to save them for six months. The problem here is that the company wants logbook records that the driver no longer has.

Just my 2 cents......I keep all logbooks for 6 years.Yes it can be a pain ! I also have a spiral notebook with date, time, start mileage, midnight count also delivery times and places. It only takes a few minutes to write it down and review at the end of the day when the logs need to be checked. Called a truckers bible by some others. Easy to be packed away for future use. Was glad we've done this !!!! was asked where we were on a certain date as a police officer was checking into a problem and behold pulled out the old logbook and said look for yerself. Not there was I ? Nope you got the wrong person good bye and was on our way. Keep that TB with you closely,it comes in handy.

The law is that a driver only has to keep the last 7 consecutive days of logs.

If you're going to use them for tax purposes & per diem, the IRS says keep them something like 3 years & the accountants tell you to keep them for 6 or 7 years.
