Need advice on recreating logbook pages... - Truckers' Trucking Forum | Message Board

I just got an email from my dispatcher saying I am missing 13 consecutive days of log book pages in December 2007 and three consecutive days in February 2008 (though I know they were turned in...I have never missed a day since October 2007 turning in a log page). The company wants me to "recreate" the pages, but they claim they can't tell me which days I worked and didn't work...yet they insist they need the log book pages that are missing in case they are audited. I feel they want the pages to cover their butts, but I would be left to hang if an audit took place and the feds compared these recreated pages to my work record. Needless to say, I don't want to sign my name to certify recreated pages, if they are not very close to the truth. Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I was thinking that I should just write on the pages that they were "Recreated from Memory"...HELP!

somthing sounds like b,s. to me you or your company are only req. to keep logs for six months the only one to worry about is for feb 08 and its up this week. i wouldnt make any thing up!! how come you dont have copys for feb 08

Yeah the DOT only requires 6 months.

And I would tell them if they can't tell you what days are missing you can't recreate. Also I wouldn't be able to recreate 2 days ago, let alone 8 or 10 months ago.

DOT requires employers keep logs on file for 6 months.Something has a bad smell to it, or you are working for idiots.

You can keep written notes of your work, and go from that, I knew a guy that checked his logs from that record. I couldn't do it from memory, but I have from such notes. Include fueling and scale times as well as departures and arrivals, anything else is more than can be expected. It's usually for the previous week that something happens, and there is no use in me blaming anyone for it, just something that has to be done. The carbon copies aren't the best thing to read unless you can blow them up to be more readable, the lines aren't quite right on those.

Thats exactly right something stinks here for sure. Six months is all they are required to keep. But some info fo you other drivers is that you should keep copies of your logs for the IRS. That becomes a different story now.

i was audited by the IRS for the year 2002 and was told that they wonted my log books for that year are i would haft to pay penalties and fines because they question my tax return for that year. i fount out that they can make you bring in your log books for 3 years and can and will use them in a court of law against you if they find some thing out of what they think might be in question.i didn't file because my truck was destroyed in accident i figured i had a total lose so i didn't file ./big mistake still fighting the IRS over this ./lyion

Log books are not the only record you have to keep to prove you were away from home.
A note pad noting days away from home, a calender (like I use) with the days marked also works.

Something written on a piece of paper will not work. Logbooks are federal documents which your signature verifies.

my bank statement will prove that I was not home on certian days.
It will tell me Debt from abc company in Layton Utah. Or were ever I was.
Bank accounts are insured by the fed that should be enough evedince showing that I was gone or even a receipt from a truckstop will prove you were not home.
