I know that one, lucky to never have a problem there. He has an attitude.

I never have issues there, but i was overweight, was fighting a nasty snow storm from AZ all the way back to MI and had 3k lbs of ice on me. He knew it too but he just wanted to make my day even worse than it already was.... I rolled through there with a spread overweight numerous times after i got it and never got pulled over again

Because of the spread.

I know of a friend that had some problems at that scale. He lived up the road and was constantly getting called in.

Geez, now I feel extra special! I rolled across the scale on US-58 outside of Norfolk last week 1700 lbs over on the trailer.

They let me slide it off and roll...

Thank you Virginia DOT!

You are right you may have not needed all of those U bolts but if it is on the truck it is required to work or be in working order.

IL I 80 eastbound out of IA caught me one day.

Seems I had shorted my 10 off by 15 mins. The officer told me to rip a page out... loose leaf comic book.... and handed me HIS pen to correct it. He then turned and watched the traffic going by the window. When he heard me crumple up the page he turned around, said I'll take that. I have him the bad page and his pen, pen goes in his pocket, and bad log page into the trash can.

Loose or broken u-bolts are an OOS. I had a loose one last week and was talking to the company mechanic about it. He showed me the reg, I just can't find anything online yet. I'll post it if I do.

HARDWARE
• U-bolt or other spring-to axle
clamp bolt cracked, broken,
loose or missing.
• Spring hanger or other axle positioning
part cracked/broken/
loose/missing, resulting
in shifting of axle from its
normal position. Note: After a
turn, lateral axle displacement
is normal with some suspensions,
including composite
springs on steer axles.
COMPOSITE SPRINGS
• Crack, passing completely
through spring,which extends
more than three-quarters the
length of the spring.
• Intersecting cracks, of any
length, which pass completely
through spring.
SPRING ASSEMBLY
• Any leaf or portion of leaf is
missing or separated from
assembly.
• One-fourth or more leaves in
one assembly are broken.
• Broken coil spring or torsion
bar spring.
• Missing rubber spring.
• Any displaced leaf that could
contact a tire, rim, brake
drum or frame.
• Deflated air suspension.
• Broken main leaf.Main leaves
are those in main and, if
equipped, helper spring packs
which: form a spring eye at
both ends; extend at both ends
into spring hanger, equalizer,
spring end cap or insulator
box mounted on axle.
Damn this stuff is dry....

I think if you will read his thread he was talking about the clamps that are put on to keep springs together in the factory and they have no use as for safety at all.Was not talking about the U bolts holding everything together.
