| Sounds like he was a donut or two shy of a load or maybe his wife jumped his a-z-z that morning and you were the "first in line".

| wow lots of action on this thread- I didn't realize there was more than one page so I just figured that out lol. Anyhoo these clips on my truck are actually for transporting and packaging I think- a spring guy said they can keep the springs from "clapping" up and down but they certainly aren't the main thing that hold the springs together- if they were I would be in trouble they are made of little 8th inch steel I can almost bend by hand. As for being nice to the cop this was the weird part- he was a real nice guy as friendly as can be- we even made small talk about how I am planning on being a cop (just graduated from college and takin a break while drivin) All the sudden out of left field "sorry bud but I'm gonna have to put you out of service". I didn't argue, thanked him and that was it. Also to reference the guy who said a new truck can be put OOS if they want- I believe it- from time to time towns in the area (Chicago burbs) will have truck roadblocks and supposedly everyone gets a ticket- its a different type of ticket- more of a village ordinance but if you are driving a truck through that block you basically get a ticket for something- even in a brand new perfect rig they will write you for something. (cab clutter comes to mind if they have nothing else) |

| This will not help Raafi but, as a Trooper and NASTI inpsector, I will as most of you know, base everything except OOS on attitude. I start all my encounters like I treat my family. Very kindly. The driver and I are merely conducting business. You must deliver your load, I must enforce laws and ensure safety. I do not ask to have my asas kissed, actually quite the opposite, if youre kissing my ### that means I look harder cuz you're hiding sumpin! The only thing I do understand is that there are some ####### that wear my same badge. The have come straight from moms house and went thru the academy with no life experience, and feel the need to break peoples stones. Doesn't matter what job you do or have come accross, there's always an ####### nearby doing it! |

| That is correct we both have a job to do. Here is the best one I have though I was headed into CA with a Century class with full fairings. This was right afetr SWIFT had ordered that west Coast fleet with the 19.5's to pull those ultra high cubes. Well I get pulled into Truckee for a Level one. The DOT officer igoes I do not care what your log looks like IF YOU CAN SHOW ME AN EASY WAY UNDER THESE CENTURY'S YOU GET A STICKER ON BOTH. I was like I am almost out of hours and I knew I had a bad brake on the trailer I was like OK I proceeded to show him how to remove the fairings of the truck. He lived up to his deal. I rolled out. |

I refused to move a trailer with a missing mud flap. That would be a ticket for you not the company. |

| Called I was headed towards a terminal all that was wrong with it was a Shoe close to company min thickness and that was 3/8 of an inch not the DOT's 1/4 of an inch. Trailer was fine just the company wanted to replace the brakes before it had been reloaded but it was the only empty in the shippers yard and they loaded it instead of letting us pull it for repairs. That is what Iwas talking about. I was a mechanic Certified by Cat Cummions Detroit also Rockwell and Dana/Spicer and eaton Fuller so I could do the repairs if I had the parts on the side of the road. |

| I burned myself the other day in VT. Followed route instructions down a .. road I'm going to avoid in the future (VT 9) Come around a corner and there's a mobile DOT set up. Swing in, not worried - I know the rig is tight, as is the trailer. I forgot my logs. Twice a 15 minute error put me over my 11 AND 14. On top of that, the truck/trailer was 6 inches over length (I still can't find any reference to that road in my Rand McNalley, but it's there on the citation) "Cop" an attitude? hardly Kiss <ahem> and bend over backwards? Just about as likely. I stayed polite, friendly, and professional. DOT looked at my logs back for 30 days (I gave them to him- he didn't ask) Only cited me for the one 11/14, and put me OOS for 2 hours. Could have been worser. When they stopped me, I was 20 minutes away from my destination - with 45 minutes left on the day's clock. By the time the inspection was completed (They paused to inspect some other rigs coming through),my 45 minutes was gone - so I was parked there until midnight anyway. When done with the other trucks (and issuing citations to a few), he took the time to show me where I'd screwed up. No complaints about them from me at all. That road.. that's another thing entirely. There's a stretch of about 200 meters that the DOT guys tell me is 16% grade. All I know is, on my approach, I was thinking "Where the **** is the road?" all the way up until the time the nose of my 379 started to follow the road down... talk about your basic frantic downshift! I've had to climb hills in 4th before (previous tractor). This is the first time I've ever gone down hill in any of the low gears (3rd, to be precise - and I'd probably have shifted down to 2nd if the hill had been longer) but I digress. Nice guys, those DOTs, even if it did cost me $$
