I often ponder going back to OTR driving, anyway the question I have is border crossing in to Canada. I've worked for 2 otr companies that did not run canada. I have a simple assault from september of 04 and was wondering if that would keep me from crossing the border. Much appreciated.

Your best bet is to start here:
and/or contact an immigration lawyer. (not that you want to immigrate, but they'll be familiar with the rules, etc.) -
Was it a felony or misdemeanor ? You might be o.k. with a misdemeanor . If your carrier runs Canada they should know the Canadian officials to contact . Check the other thread recently posted about needing pardons .

It was a misdemeanor and thanks for the info. I will definetly check it out.

I had a friend who was arrested for domestic violence. Never convicted. Canada refused to allow him to enter commercially.
Another driver I met was not allowed because he had been arrested for assault and battery. Not convicted.
I strongly suggest confirmation BEFORE you arrive at the border. -
DUI's can cause you some big problems getting into Canada too. This is just for others that may see this thread in the future!

Rather than misdemeanors and felonies Canada have cases classified as "summary conviction" and "indictable" . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summary_offence
