Hey Y'all, I am a long haul driver & don't do short miles under 500 a day & need to help a friend on her log. So here it is:
Day One: Start working at 4:45 PM Worked Till 12AM a Total of 7.25 Worked, Hours & Drove 350 miles.
Day 2: Start Working at 12AM & Worked till 2:15AM then went into the sleeper for 10 hours came back down to working at 12:15 PM & ended working at 8:15 PM & went off duty. Total of 10.25 hours Worked & Drove 415 miles.
So will she be OK with the 10 hours in the sleeper or should it have been 8 hours. I am confused about this cause I have never driven a shift that one day runs into another & never under 500 miles per day. She is new & I am doing my best to help her before she gets into trouble out there. Thanks EC ( The Driver In The Passing Lane) (LOL Gotcha, CYA, Never Know who Reads This Stuff )

Nope, there's been a serious violation of the 14 hour rule.

Add number of hours before the 8, with number of hours after the 8. That's 17.5 hours.

Depending on pre-trip and post trip times. She should have stopped driving somewhere around 2pm +/- for a 2 hour break to run a split.

As long as she is showing at least 2 hours off duty at 615p she'll be fine. The 8 hours restarts the 14 hour rule per the TX DOT.

No sir it does not. It only stops the clock, for that 8 hours.

The clock restarts where you stopped at IE 7.25 hours, before the 8.
That would leave her 4 hours to drive, provided you count only 15 minutes on duty not driving in that 7.25

To completely reset the 14, you must have a 10 hour break. Otherwise, you are required to log a split sleeper. It would be what remained on the 14, which is 6.75 hours. But no more than 11 driving total in the shifts.

He said NOTHING about TX DOT rules. You are mistaken. You MIGHT be allowed to do this under Texas INTRAstate regulations, but NOT Federal INTERstate regulations.

that's the way i understand it too. an 8 hour break extends the 14 by 8. BUT NOT the 11. cant extend the 14 with the 2 hr break first either, right?

But say I take a 2 hour Sleeper, and then before My 11 hours of Driving is up, I take 8 hours off duty or sleeper, Don't that give me an additional 11 hours of driving? I hope so, or I have been wrong a few times.

I believe if you "split" you HAVE to take at least 8 hours off FIRST.

GOOGLE "Driversdailylog" and download a free 30 day version of the program.
It will SHOW you that you are wrong.
I had 7 DIFFERENT DOT Officers using the SAME figures and SAME calculator come up with 8 DIFFERENT total Duty hours for the previous 8 days.
