Just a little bit curious. Does your company compensate you for working on a holiday? I don't care if you are otr or local. It would seem to me that if you worked for a great company, they would offer to pay something different for being away from your family on a holiday.

I was just curious how many drivers out there get extra pay for working a holiday? If so, how does your pay differ from a normal day? If not, do they give you a paid day off in the future for working on a holiday? Or, is your company one that doesn't seem to care if you are working a holiday? You are going to get paid your regular amount and be happy you have a job?

Thank you to all of the veterans on this day, for all you have done and all you have sacrificed.

In general the trucking companies do not value there drivers enough to pay drivers pay, there are a few gas haulers, ups etc... but by in large not in this industry. drivers can even get home and make decent money let alone holiday pay, they all consider it part of the job.

Since this is your second post on this, let me break it down for you. From an OTR prospective.

Some do, some don't. Usually, it's a predetermined amount added to your check. IE $60 a day for holiday pay, added to your check at the end of the week.
    Simple answer.....NO
2 part question, deserves a 2 part answer.

Very few companies care whether it's a holiday or not, you'll get used to it. We work ALL holidays, for the most part. Most will try to have you home on Christmas day. Some even guarantee it, even if they have to buy you a bus ticket. Of course this means you may have to leave home early, to make it to your truck located 1200 miles away, on time for dispatch. But that's your problem.

You get your mileage pay, plus the holiday pay as set forth in the company handbook.

Superior Carriers pays us for 8 hours on the major holidays. If we work them we get that on top of our mileage, and other hourly pay. This weekend I worked Memorial day but I was off Friday-Sunday.

I'm a contractor for the US Postal Service. Most of us work every holiday, but we do get paid doubletime for it. If we don't run one holiday, it pays a flat 8 hours.

20 years in the industry and that's how you think it is " in general ...by in large " ? You've worked for the wrong companies . Every company I worked for paid holidays . Can't get home ? I have been home for every restart except one . I brought a load from Jackson , MS to O'Fallon IL for a Friday delivery and was supposed to head home from there. They rejected the load and it had to go back to MS . There wasn't anything wrong with the load . They didn't have room for it and didn't want to pay detention time . When I unloaded Saturday in Jackson they wanted me to reload from the same batch and go to the same place Sunday because they needed it . Sorry , out of hours.
