May said we could have a beer, as long as it is 15 hours prior to driving. And of course - not in the truck. So I guess a 34 hour reset at home is good-to-go.

Gotta love them recruiters. So full of it.

And yes that FMSCA handbook is like reading the IRS Code. At the rate I am going, it will take me a year to read it - I fall asleep after a page - once I made two. And I love reading, just not this book - oh well.

This is kind of an old case, but basically, if you give your false log to an officer or inspector, and they find out they are false, the feds can charge you in federal court for False Swearing. The following is a judgement against an O/O and his wife. Yes, it DOES happen. Generally, though, states will charge it as an infraction or simple misdemeanor, with fines ranging from 300 to 800 bucks. Keep it Legal Beagle!!!!!!!

"On December 20, 1995, the jury returned guilty verdicts against
both defendants on all counts charged in the indictment, except that
Gunther was acquitted of the false declarations charge. The defendants
timely moved for judgments of acquittal and renewed their
motions after the verdicts were returned. The district court denied the
    motions.
Gunther was sentenced to a 30 month term of imprisonment and
    GLT was fined $170,000."

I am sure this was not just for a simple false log, but for major issues.

Two additional things about this case were that he lied to a grand jury and there was destruction of evidence directed by him.
