Some ladies carry wasp spray in their truck. A little shot in the eyes and they're going to be hurting. Tire thumpers are a popular choice as well, as has been mentioned. I carry dumbells, for exercise but they could be used to whack someone if need be. If you're parked somewhere and someone's trying to get to you in your truck, a good blast of the airhorn might work to deter them. It's certainly an attention getter.

What a load of ####... First thing is learn to pay attention to your surroundings. Act before reacting is necessary. Use mace or a stun gun, then leave the area. People like to talk macho, when it comes down to it very few have what it takes to take another's life. When you hesitate your dead with your own gun. Being smart and paying attention will get safer. Take some self defense classes, available free in most area for women, check with your local sheriff dept. If you do decide getting a firearm is the way to go, get your permit to carry take shooting lessons and practice alot firing and when to fire has to become second nature to you, just like it is for a cop. You have to learn to judge when deadly force is acceptable, and you cannot be wrong, you can't take it back when you find out you just shot a friend, because you were not awake yet. I'm sorry just wont help. educate, then practice what you learn, lots.
