What Legal Weapons of Choice is allowed for our OTR drivers?

All weapons fail at times...my XD's have been through a few courses (Thunder Ranch, Gunsite, and the harshest one of all...me going through 2000 rounds just playin around on the weekends)...and in case you don't know what a 45 Super is, its a 45acp on steroids (230 XTP # 1200 fps), the XD has been handling that just fine for around 10,000 rounds now.

You news is not bad news to me...with all due respect, when it comes to any weapon thats not a brand new design...there is not one single thing you could tell me that I have not already heard or seen.

And besides...if I was heading into combat I'd be carrying one of my 1911's anyway.

 

Good morning to all the BS boys, What part of actually arrested and charged with having a firearm in a commercial motor vehicle, do u not understand? As stated as long as u have a permit most states will recprocate, not all. But if ur really interested check on Jasper, Fl court cases in 1991-1992. Oh and do not get caught with a weapon in a school zone either, ur permit is no good there! It is always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. From the liars round table in the trkstp restaurant to the CB radio,to the internet my what progress!

 

I think your foolishness has gone on in this thread long enough. As has been stated time and time again; there is NO federal law regarding guns in a CMV.

I was even nice enough to copy a message from the DOT that spells this out in post #78.

Over 2 years ago I posted in the Experienced Trucker's Advice Tread is it really worth the hassle to carry a firearm and if you do you better know all the regulations. There's been 41,198 views and 866 replies. Most replies have been drivers talking out of their ##*es with no real proof on what they say. But there's been a few with good reliable answers with solid references that would most likely be cleared if they used a firearm. People that spout out statements without a reference are useless on a topic like this. You could get in real serious trouble if you're dumb enough to be blind to the law. I suggest that you search out the posting on my thread by the people that have done all the checking then check you specific case or company.

 

me and my buddy was stopped in chipley, florida. (home state) Florida Highway Patrol made the initial stop and he inturn contacted DOT because he was unsure of somethings about commercial laws. So we had 4 trooper cars and 3 dot cars on side of road on i-10 eastbound just before exit 120. We were pulled for "improper display of tag" , but what got his attention was the flapping plastic he used to cover the load of lumber we were bringing to south florida. Well my buddy is a convicted felon and he is an O/O. They were obviously looking for dope because they had k-9 there and they separated us and questioned us separately. They never took the k-9 out but they grilled us to no end. Well here is where the story relates to the thread. I possess a CCW permit and my GUN was in the truck in my laptop bag. The trooper asked if there any amounts of drugs in the truck then he asked if there was anything in truck he needed to know about and i informed him of my hand gun. He retrieved the hand gun and unloaded it and then asked for my permit. After the DOT officer finished his level ii inspection my handgun and bullets were returned to me on the side of the road and we were put out of service for a Faulty tire and some faulty signal lights, allowed to drive to the next exit to fix lights and then another 20 miles to fix the tire at a TA truckstop. The DOT officer never even mentioned the GUN and all four troopers never said a word after verifying my permit and told me not to load the pipe until i was back in the truck. Got a warning from the trooper for improper tag display cuz i was driving when stopped and the dot officer said i was in violation cuz i didnt record miles driving each day in log book and my buddy was in violation cuz he didnt do a change of duty when he stooped driving and i started. No FiNES given out that day just warnings and out of service until the tire was fixed and lights working properly. And we made it back to SOuth Fla 3am on the FOURTH of JULY. No laws against having the gun in CMV.

 

That varies by state...in TN my permit does allow me to carry in school zones, even on school grounds, as long as I don't get out of the vehicle.

And I can provide proof of this...

 

Was thinking the same thing, From what I understand "gun free zones" have to say on their sign "Your CWP is not valid here". Saw that sign at the local court house when I paid my property taxes.

During deer season last year I came outta the woods to go watch my kids soccer game. Set through the whole game with the 1911 open carried on school grounds, Not a word said by anyone. Several other parents are LEO ranging from SHP, Deputys, and one game warden.

 

All your reference does is say you didn't have any violations at that stop by those LEO's. Don't be foolish and think because you were cleared the laws are the same everywhere.

 

I'm not always a driver. For several years, I've qualified with my XD40-tactical with no problems. My secondary weapon is a Ruger P-90, and have had no problems with it either. I don't know how many XD's have supposedly failed on your combat course, but I can attest to the few that are within our organization.

 

I have never heard of any Federal regulations concerning firearms in CMV's, but when I originally entered truck driving, we were told that 7 states had mandatory prison terms for drivers caught with a firearm in their CMV.
I have yet to carry a firearm in a CMV, and have never challenged what was said by trying to research which state may have said laws.

Other drivers have already shared their 'weapons' of choice. Crow bars, hammers, screwdrivers, etc...
I like the wasp and hornet spray, the ones that spray a stream about 20 feet would work great.
