They won't come out and chase you, but you can never be sure. I know that some of the scale masters might not want you on it, but others at the same scale do. Why try and make them mad, is my philosophy. |

| We are commercial with USDOT #. In IL you have to enter scales if over 8 tons no matter if you are commercial or not. Happened at Weigh Station 18 - Marion - I 57 SB north of I 24. The trailer is owned by a Canadian company and leased to us for short term periods(1-6 days). Obviously we would prefer having it registered in IL but they own the trailer. The worst part of this whole thing is that we have talked to the IL state police truck enforcement department and they agree that we are legal. But the ticket was written by a truck weight officer and they say that there is no weight listed on the copy of the registration the officer took. (But there is - its just in kilograms) Thanks again for all the info. |

| Well if there is a weight on the registration and you are in fact legal, hire a lawyer go to court and then file a suit against them for your wrongly incurred costs because of their stupidity! |

The plate is the issue in Illinois and others states. The power unit is required to have the plate for the units. It is something you will see more of. I had my education in June 2004. My D plate was removed upon the return to Illinois and H put in its place. I met with an officer for the State Secretary of State Police. He is the one that confirmed that these trucks have to be plated this way. I pull trailers with a transport plate. If the trailer has a plate on it, I am still required to place the transport plate over the licensed vehicle. This is so when they run the tag it comes up with the company I am leased to. Not the company that the trailer is licensed to. Get an attorney and try to get it straightened out. The scale houses have been looking at these vehicles lately and with the economy in the way it is, look for more fines. |
