E-LOGS
This question is for all seasoned drivers who know whats going on,when do you think e-logs will be implemented for everyone, and do you think owner-ops will be included in this when the mandate comes down?

If and when it comes to that my prediction is this. After more O/O's and co's go under. The new problem will be this. No one has hours available to deliver the freight. Co's who have multiple drivers will be swapping trailers 2 and 3 times a day to try to get the freight farther down the road. All this will do is break the system even worse. Who will pay? Anyone and everyone who needs anything that comes off the truck. The mark up will be so bad because of the costs absorbed in getting the freight to the market they might have blue light specials on tuesdays. 1 gallon of milk half price for 10 bucks...

I think real soon. I read that electronic logs rule will be written into the next highway spending bill. I think would make things interesting but the industry and the recievers will make the proper adjustments to deal with it.

Not an Obama deal.
It was proposed by the FMCSA in April 2007.
It is also for all CMV.

Nope. Been using them since Oct 08. Been checked two times. I fought it tooth and claw at first but it's so much easier. I'm just an old school guy and never thought I'd be doing anything like this. You are required by law to still carry a hard log book in the event of a qualcom server breakdown or if the sever goes down for maintenance, which it actually has a couple times. The electronic book will give a message/warning when communication is lost so you can fill out and use a hard log during that time. It will also notify you when things are restored and you can go back paperless. It's great *if* you're running legal already, not great if you aren't and don't want to...... I still can't believe I'm actually liking it but since we are required ( by company) to run legal anyway I have to say again it's so much easier. I'm like a dinosaur waking up in a modern world so to speak.
I had a nice chuckle week before last in Arkansas when I got pulled over up in the northwest corner for a random check. After looking at tires, lights, license and medical he asked for my log book. As I stretched the screen and cord out the door to him he said have a nice day driver and walked off.......
