To get into the port of Newark, NJ you needs a sealink card. You have to have the TWIC to get the sealink. And they won't allow you on the property unless you have both cards.

Long Beach & LA ports you have to have a RFID tag mounted on your drivers side mirrors... And of course you have to have both to enter those ports.

As for WCP says.... I've heard of that kind of talk... But I personally haven't seen documents that support it.

Living in baltimore seems like TWIC would be handy. I dropped my hazmat, will never get it again, nor Twic, nor passport. There's plenty to do in these 48 states. I don't care for driving in canada. To each his own I guess. And I think the ports suck big time. But I guess a newbie should increase his chances of employment as much as possible.

I have both Hazmat and TWIC. TWIC was reduced from $135 to $105 due to my recent renewal of the Hazmat. I also got a passport card. None of these are needed with Millis Transfer but Roehl is taking on new business with ports and I was told from recruiting that they are asking drivers (especially new ones) to have the TWIC. This allows the company to be more flexible in what they can haul and if you have the same, it allows you more options. My friend at Roehl had to turn down a load to a port, since he didnt have a TWIC....

So, if you can afford it - why not. If it's too much for you right now, then wait.
Some people have their Hazmat and never use it..

I understand that they will be coming out with a new card in january. They still haven't decided what it'll be used for. But they have decided to charge $186.75 for it.
