How many of you have either, and if so do you use them much?
I am finishing school down at the Port of Baltimore and feel that a TWIC would be useful for me, and I would like to have the added ability to take some Hazmat loads when I graduate.
Any thoughts?

It will not hurt you to have those credentials, in fact the more qualifications you have, the more opportunities you have. to answer your question, it is worth the extra money to have the qualification. If its like here in Va. if you have your Hazmat Endorcement, the TWIC fee is reduced.
I vote for having them. -
I have both.

I have both. Use them daily (hauling petroleum around the great lakes).

But the TWIC won't give you access to the ports of Newark, NJ, Long Beach, CA, or Las Angeles, CA
Bayou_baby Thanks this. -
Got the stupid hazmat and as soon as I got it my company quit hauling the stuff! All I had to do was haul 2 loads to pay for the stupid thing! That was money well spent
Now I need to apply for a Passport and TWIC card and REDD what do you mean it wont get us into those ports? WTF is the difference? -

I have the TWIC and I had a Hazmat from '93-'98.....
Went in to renew my license and I was told that all I had to take was everything but the hazmat.....DMV disagreed with their own notice and gave me the "carriers'" test...not the drivers'......
The difference is the carrier's test has CFR quotes that you as a carrier are supposed to know by the paragraph #...needless to say...I wasn't a carrier at the time and bombed that endorsement....
I told the DMV to keep their #### hazmat...never used it and never will. -
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking that I think that you're thinking I'm thinking because if you think that I think what I think I'm thinking then we've got a problem?"
then you and i think alike.

The question is will you ever have the need for hazmat in the future? The middle word in life is "if" so do a few "ifs". If you left your company today would your next company haul hazmat? If your company started hauling hazmat would you be prepared when others would not? I work for a company that hauls very little hazmat, so only maybe once or twice a year I need hazmat but I am prepared when needed. If the times comes when you need your hazmat would you rather "wish" you had hazmat or will you be prepared?
