I asked the dealer that when I bought my last truck. He said a bill of sale was sufficient.
I went from Dallas Peterbilt to Georgia like that. I dang sure wouldn't be duct taping anything to my paint like some suggested.
Think about the new trucks that are driven from the factories to the dealers every day. They don't have any special documentation.
I've bought three trucks over the years and never worried about driving them home. I did have insurance in place though.

I was thinking buying from a dealer is different than a private party but I guess not.

so I need to send my insurance a BOS to get it under my policy.

Did you have IFTA or IRP when driving your trucks back?

No, I didn't have my own authority and got IFTA sticker from man I was leased to when I got back.
Applied for tags by mail at the time. The way I understand it, regardless of where you purchased it, you are not engaged in commerce at the time, nor are you contracted to a carrier either, which essentialy makes it just like driving your car.
