I have just been told by my company that I am the only driver that takes a 34 hour shutdown after driving 70 hours. Would someone please explain this to me. I have been driving for 3 years and have always followed the 34 hour down rule. Am I wrong? Please advise. I am confused.

I'm gonna assume your company runs drivers legal . If this is the case if a driver was to drive 70 hours and line 3 & 4 never went over 8 and 3 quarters hours , a driver would always have hours to run .
Hope that helps you . -
Your not clear in your post. Drive/Work, lines 3/4 for 70 hours in how many days?>
-
if your total day, line 3 and 4 combined only come out to no more then 8 hours and 45 mins everyday, youll never need to reset
-
OK , I want you to understand this for sure ... Line 4 / work
line 3 / drive . Now 8 and 3 quarters x 8 days =70 hours .
Your next day recap will give you 8 and 3 quarters to work and drive . As long as you keep 8 and 3 quarters hours your MAX on any day you will never restart !!
Hope that helps , if not say so . I will help ya . -
Correct -
The reset isn't needed. Every new day, some hours fall off. You will have days you can't run much though. Or days you can't work at all.
-
I believe in planning my hours. If all I am going to get after sitting for 24 hours is not much, I will sit the additional 10 hours for the full 70. -

Blufin, I get the impression that YOU think you need to take a 34 re-set after 70 hours. All a re-set is, is to give a driver a fresh 70 hours for his log book, if he thinks he will need it that week. So, if you fill out your recap like a good little trucker should, you can see how many hours you're picking up each day in the week ahead. So, ask yourself, is 7 available hours OK for tomorrow and then maybe 9 the day after etc? Or should you do a re-set to have a full 70 to start of the week. Depends mostly on how you're running, right?
