I just got put on safety hold because of a narcotic I am on. I have been on pain management for the last 2 years. Recently my doctor and I changed from Vicodin to a combination of Vicodin and Ms Contin. Is there any body out there that is on the same or close to the combination?? I asked if I should start looking for another job but they said they couldn't answer that and that the company doctor has review my long sheet from my DOT Medical.. Also this is my second 90 day because of blood pressure, and the secretary that was helping me decided to diagnose me and put that I am depressed and on medication for it, how ever I am on a medication that also treats depression but actually have anxiety issues. The secretary said same thing and wrote on my long sheet. Figured I was screwed with the MS Contin but wanted to get any words from the vetrans of the trucking industry.:biggrin_2554:

From fire department experience, and medic unit....not a good combination to be behind the wheel with. Just my opinion...not a doctor or pharmacist.

What do the labels on the bottles say? Actually any Pharmacist will give you the best answer for this combo and driving. Trust me, the pharmacist actually has a better knowledge than any MD when it comes to prescription combination's.

Technically, Vicoden is a prohibited drug if your driving. My wife is on it now for a seperated shoulder, she drives 1.5 miles a day to work on back streets and works in a resturant. It states right on the bottle do not take if you operate heavy machinery. I know when I had oral surgery about 2 yrs ago, they gave me vicoden for the pain, my boss wouldn't let me come near the semi until I stopped taking it.

I was on MS Cotin for a while.. I could only take it at night before I went to bed.. If I had a flare up and needed to take it during the day I had to stop driving after I took the meds for the rest of the day..

The bottom line is you can have the medication but you cannot be under the influance of the medication while driving. (Just like alcohol). Since MS Cotin is so long lasting your pretty much out of service for 8 - 12 hrs after you take it if I remember right? If you have to take it all the time for pain management.. your outa luck, your days of driving are done.. Do not pass go, do not collect $200... sorry..

Just a FYI.. Vicodin is not as long lasting, it cannot be in your system while driving.. Just like MS Cotin.. but the recovery period is much shorter...

    Please, no offense intended.

You're gonna come on a truckers forum-and ask THAT kind of question !!!!!!

Please visit your nearest Pharmacy for the REAL DEAL.

Well actually you can be on Vicodin and drive a semi. You just have to have the right documentation to suport it. I guess I will wait and see what the company doctor has to say.

Here is a couple of links you need to read.>> http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/safety-security/safety-initiatives/drugs/drug-guidelines.htm

    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/medical.htm

    http://www.justice.gov/dea/pubs/scheduling.html

The reason I included the link with DEA, it has the schedule of drugs. I could not find the webpage with a list of prohibited scheduled drugs for driving but I do know it exists. Because I have posted it before to a member such as yourself. It's there, just search for it. FYI, I would make darn sure you can have these on the truck. Just because the doctor says so does not mean the DOT will allow it.
    Hope this helps you,
    RT
