If you want to stay in Cali, consider the Inland Empire. Tons of companies are in the Ontario/Fontana area. If freight out of California is slow you can wait at home.

 

Williston North Dakota is boooming. I have been hiring drivers from at $16 to $18 and hour. 15 days on and 6 days off. Tons of hours(the guys are averaging about 70 hours a week and some are over 100). I need hazmat drivers for radioactive equipment and hydrochloric acid tankers the most. Is anyone interested in coming north? Driving is only about 20% of the job here.

 

Whats the other 80%??

 

20% driving, 20% physical labor, 20% paperwork and 40% waiting(on wellsite standby etc. all paid of course).

 

Agreed! Companies will love you if your 100% in the truck.

The best locations to live as a truck driver are within 30 miles of a large metropolitan area. The second best location is in areas that have multiple interstates intersecting one another, The third best would be along any major interstate in an interior sate.

The first choice; When a driver lives within 30 miles of a large metropolitan area he will find many more companies that service that area. OTR companies will be present but then again there will be many local positions available so you will have more opportunities across the board.

The second choice; When you can find a location that has multiple interstates bisecting one another you will have a greater opportunity to get through that area and consequently may get a chance to swing through the house under a load. The flip side of this is when drivers live in corner states such as Maine, Florida, Southern California, and Washington it becomes difficult to find loads that will get you "thru" that area. Time off will normally be scarce and loads "through" the house will not be as plentiful.

The third choice; Along any interstate will provide a main artery for you to access your home. Hopefully it is along a major freight corridor.

Other things to consider are: Friends and Family (support base for tough times and encouragement) Climate, Taxes, cost of living, job opportunities, how prone to natural disasters? etc.

 

How does one get ahold of you

 

You'd be surprised the number of OTR truckers that live in the country. It's one job someone living in a poor economy can make a good living at. You can live cheap and have more money versus the high prices of city life. It's good to live with 50 miles of major freight lanes. I usually DH 100-150 miles to home.

 

Western North Dakota is where its at. I got hired with no experience other than school and am now pulling a tanker. Home 2-3 nights a week and making between 1100-1400 bucks a week
