I currently work full time OTR as a solo company driver. My dream is to get significant chunks of time off, as I have very few expenses and want a life outside of trucking. I prefer solo, but would team under the right circumstances.

I know that Knight Transportation offers Week On/Week Off slip seat OTR positions, but they wont hire me due to patchy work history. I know that CRST and Schneider offer 2 weeks on, 1 week off, but I think my best bet is to hold out until Knight will hire me.

Are there any other companies out there that offer chunks of time off like this?

I'd also be open to finding a situation where I could work 8 or 9 months on, and have 3 or 4 summer months off. I'm doubting that any big company would hire seasonally like this. Does anyone think that any small O/O's would possibly let me team with them and then take the summer off? Any ideas?

Man the way the economy is right now, I would think you'd want to hold on to what you have. Seriously!

In times past, the types of casual jobs you are looking for were fairly easy to come by. But with all the drivers out of work today, you may be hard pressed to find something like this.

OBTW, unless you are certifiably insane, stay away from Knight.:yes2557:

Wow... I agree with Big Don... Also, with your expenses being low, it is a great opportuity for you to save up a chunk of money, so that late you can get a truck an be an O/O... Even if you don't want to be an 0/0... it is always good to be in a position to be able to save money...

I think if you just stck it out awhile longer, you will save money and repair your work history which will give you much more opportunities later.

I dunno LT. Considering the weather, if he sticks it out for too long, it might freeze and fall off!:biggrin_25523::biggrin_25525:

Hmmm... thanks I guess you guys. But just because you want to work all day, every day does not mean that I want to... So if anyone can give me an answer to my question, I'd be thankful. So far my list of companies that offer seasonal or week on, week off work is : Knight, Schneider, Roehl, CRST. Anyone else?

Who said I want to work all day???? I'm retired and don't need to work at all.:biggrin_25522::biggrin_2559:

Seriously, I'm surprised that nobody else has chimed in on this. It is a legitimate question.

    Good luck to you!

We're might possibly be cut from the same cloth. We wanted more time off than pretty much any company out there offered. At least we never found what we were looking for so in the end we decided to buy our own truck.

If I'm remembering correctly USXpress offers a program where teams slip seat a truck and each drive one month and take one month off. At least that's how I remember it. We thought about it for a while but it seemed really complicated to set up. You might check into it.

I've heard about Knight's program. They say 1 on, 1 off, but, you can't make plans because you may be 600 miles from home when you are scheduled to be off. It's the old " we're trying to find a load for you" routine.

Well, you drive 1 week on and have a week off. Slip seat operation.
