I've been looking for every possible way not to go to Swift or Werner but by me being in Florida, it looks like those are probably my only two options. I've tried the following:
North Florida Sales(Budweiser), Coca Cola, Conway Freight, Old Dominion, Waste Management,R & L Carriers,ABF, Fed Ex, UPS Freight, Champion Brands(Miller Beer), Sysco, Pepsi, TMC, WEL Companies, Armellini and a couple of others.
I'm still contemplating an offer from CCC (Commercial Carrier Corp) but they have all auto equipment and I really don't want to start my trucking career in an auto. I know I have to get my experience how I can get it, but it gets depressing to see others have better opportunities simply because of their location while in Florida we're in "truckers island." I don't mean to sound like a baby guys, I just had to vent!! LOL
Well, barring any major developments, I'll be heading to Lakeland on the 23rd for Werner orientation(LONG SIGH).................................
Being a newbie in Florida is SOOOO depressing!

Yeah I know most of them require one year but I have heard instances of newbies getting hired by every company I listed. I didn't think I had much of a chance getting hired by them but I decided why not give it a try and see what happens.

CSX is hiring, but only pays 19.00 an hour.
Dean Foods, but would have to go home everyday.
Dr Pepper/Snapple, but again-you'd have to sleep at home.
Pam
Willis Shaw-automatic, so what they're hiring !!!!

I would go to CCC long before I went with Werner, their local trucks are not automatic, granted their road trucks are but they still have a few manuals floating around. I worked for them as my first OTR gig and they're not bad at all, you've got the brewery right there in Jax and could stay local, not the best pay, but you're not going to make anymore at Werner and you're going to have to factor in expenses of being on the road. Think long and hard before you make the move towards Werner, that decission might bite you in the butt, simply put if you've got an offer from CCC I would entertain that first and see where it goes. Just my 2 cents............

Have you tried windy hill?

You know what Trashtrucker I was just talking about that with a friend just a couple of minutes before I checked back in on this site. My heart is telling me to lean towards CCC at the moment.
Chompi I did check into Windy Hill and everything sounds pretty good from what I hear from other people. Only thing abouth them is that I would have to park my truck in Eustis during hometime, about 2 1/2 hours from home. Other than that, they seem like a decent option. -
I wish I had that option when I was driving. Cost my wife and I $100 a month for truck parking even when we weren't there. Of course if you have the ability to park at your house and can see why you don't want to drive all the way to Eustis. When I was an owner op we used to live the truck in atlanta, ga and drive home. I live outside Daytona! Sounds ridiculous but it was way cheaper than usually dead heading home and dead heading back to atlanta. Have you looked at bubbajunk or careers in gear? You just type in Jacksonville and it will show you all the companies in JAX. It usually shows the requirements too. Whether they are hiring experienced or students. Good luck!
