Depending on the type of driving you want to do, there could be several opportunities for you in California, including agricultural jobs that keep you near the West Coast if you want.

There are a couple websites (dont know them off the top of my head) that list companies by the state they are based out of. You might not be able to work for all of them as a beginner, but if you seem some opportunities you like you could always stick it out for a year somewhere else to get the experience.

    Good luck in your search

Having lived in California all my life (how sad), I can say you're looking for something that does not exist. You will find NO large carriers based in this state. The reason is due to the cost of operating in California. For years there has been an exodus of companies leaving due to exorbitant Worker's Comp, high property values, strict vehicle pollution regs, etc. Many companies have terminals in this state, so you want to confine your search to companies who run the Pacific Northwest and Southwest, the I-5 corridor, based in Washington or Arizona, of which there are many. I live in San Francisco and have submitted many apps. But, I haven't applied to a single California company for the above reasons. Good luck!

Look at KKW trucking, Pomona, DOT line, Vernon, Wolf trucking, Van Nuys, Sam Kholi transport, San Diego, Marten has a yard in Ontario, Rhoel has a yard in Fontana, Arrow has a yard in Fontana, and, KLLM also. CRST, too. Plus Covenant, Pomona. :biggrin_25526:

Arrow Trucking: Headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. KLLM: Headquartered in Gainsville, Georgia. They have yards!!! What did I say? Don't look for companies IN California; look for companies that run the West Coast. You don't apply for a job at a yard. You call Recruiting at their HEADQUARTERS! How many recruiters have you ever found at a DROP YARD? Some companies even have orientation in California like USXpress (based, I believe, in Chattanooga, Tennessee). Get a clue! Oh, Covenant? Owned by USXpress: Based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Marten? Mondovi, Wisconsin!!!! Sam Kholi? California alright. According to their company profile they have 75 tractors. You call that a major carrier? There are a lot of small companies like that, KKW, included. They don't hire out of school, though. So go ahead, post your little teddy bears with the rolling eyes. But, in the meantime: Read the posts before you dribble out your mis-information.

Ummmm.... That is not true! USXpress does not own Covenant unless they just did a transaction a few minutes ago. The owners of the 2 companies are related by blood... But they are the biggest competitor that I have ever seen.

I am no doubt mistaken, I thought they were bought up back when USXpress was expanding some 10 yrs, ago. Nevertheless, they are based in Chattanooga, Tennessee---not, California. They only have drop yards in CA.

Try Hendrickson Trucking, based in Sacramento. I don't know what their hiring specs are concerning just-out-of-school hires, but they ARE in Ca.
Also, try Fleetdirectory.com. There is an entire list of CA.-based companies.

    Good luck to you!

:biggrin_25510:Gee, Mr. Dynosour, you are in a tizzy. The guy wanted to know about companies either in S.Ca or based in S.Ca. While Arrow isn't based in S.Ca (Tulsa) they do have a yard, shop, dispatch in Fontana. West Coast regional is dispatched out of Fontana. Covenant hires and has orientation in Pomona, as well as a shop. Not affiliated with US express. CRST use to have orientation in Fontana, not sure if they still do. KLLM as well. Marten has more than a drop yard in Ontario, allthough orientation might be in Mondovi. (who cares) DOT line, Vernon, based there. KKW trucking, Pomona, based there, a decent sized company. Sam Kholi, San Diego, based there. The original poster asked for suggestions, which I gave him. It's up to him to inquire and gather info. It's a place for him to start. Have a nice day......:biggrin_25510:
