If you are in San Antonio area man, look into Basic Energy, it's where I work and it's actually a #### good job (to me). You work 14 a day, 4 on 2 off period. Pump trucks, winch trucks, and tankers. They will hire new drivers but you will spend quite a long time driving with another guy in the truck with you. Not a big deal though because you get full pay from day one.

Good benefits, within 5 years you don't even have an insurance payment anymore, the company covers it all (you will still pay for your family though), good all around place and the hours are stooopid compared to other companies out there. I work 70 a week, sometimes as little as 60 but rarely. You accumulate vacation time from the day you start and you get 10 days your first year.

Check em out if you're interested man, they have a yard in that area.

My wife is especially wanting me to look into this.. I also need to be able to pay the bills with new job, flatbedding seems to be pretty good, but she wants me home EVERY night if possible. I would like to, also, but I also want to be realistic about trucking. HELP!!!

(Has anyone heard anything about McElroy or PGT trucking? I've talked to recruiters and they sound great; they're not huge companies, and I can't find any drivers to talk to...)
You need to check out ACME TRUCK LINES. They are an oilfield hauler and have many terminal in Louisiana and Texas, but they also have terminals spread throughout the country. I'm currently leased to them, and we are on call 24hrs. a day. I make very good money and am home 6 out of 7 nights. They are a very good company to work for. If you have any questions about them or the work let me know I will be glad to help you out.

The first thing my dispatcher told me was "Boy, the sun shines 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year in the oilfield"! And SHE wasn't lying.
    Holiday, what holiday?

It dosent sleet, snow, hail, rain, and it dosent get hot or cold in the oilfield. Everyday is a good enough day to work in this industry.

No kidding, I was fixing a downhole pump at a SWD during Ike lol.

So is ACME a decent gig? I almost signed on with them before going to Basic but they flat out told me I would need two logbooks, their benefits were crap, and I needed to know where every weigh station in Tx was because I would be over 90% of the time and they weren't paying (seriously) and this was out of the Kilgore Tx yard. After that speech, I just kinda laughed and let them know that negated all the good things they had said up until that point as I made my way out the door.

I work with ACME a yes I love working there. I dont know who you talked to but apparently they didnt know up from down. About the logbooks, if you dont want to run over your hrs then dont they will not force you too. Now that being said I get creative with mine because I like to work alot when we are busy, it makes up for the slow times. Being over weight, hardly ever, if I do know its over weight I wont haul it, or haul less of it. I like to find out what every piece weighs before I load it on my trailer. Now their benefits do suck because they dont have any, they are an O/O company so you have to get health and stuff on your own. Their loads to pay pretty good, I've yet to see any real cheap loads, the other companys like ours (Ace, and Venture) dont pay as well. Venture would be more on par with Acme but I still dont think they cant touch them. So yes I think they are a great company. I dont know how the Texas terminals are but the ones here are good and stay busy.

Mission Petroleum is usually hiring, they are TX based. I work for them up here in TX panhandle. Be ready to put in long hours--14 hr/ 70 hr wk.. They haul crude oil from the lease sites. The headquarters is out of Houston but they run all over TX.
