| Hey Dave I worked out of northern Maine for a few years, lived yhere for awhile long time ago, and visit occaisionally. Southern Maine, Portland, Augusta, is fairly grown up and close enough to other metropolitain areas to make job search much like anywhere else. Northern Maine, Bangor and north, is a different situation alltogether. Jobs, espesially local jobs are scarce and the workforce has been there a long while, doesn't change much. And the majority of people in northern Maine drive truck. Makes it very tuff for a newcomer to get a good job. But.. there are plenty of road companies based in the area who are usually looking for road drivers. Not usually the best jobs, and you will probably run a lot of New York City, (most people from that area will avoid big citys at all costs) but there is work up there. Most of the companies don't advertise on the major job banks, so the best way is to visit and cold call. Outfits looking for drivers usually put signs outside their door stating so. As a side note, I would say stay away from McCain, but that's just my opinion. |

| Vans ,Hartt out of Bangor me, I am currentlly with them,great folks to work for and an open door policy. You can talk to the owners or bosses just about any time,have flatbeds work also. Then you have E J presscott,PEP transport out of gardiner me.,ex can average 50 cts a mile,also hire inexperienced newbees and will train for flatbed work,my son is a trainer there at times. Carlin,bangor me,flatbeds, Stay away from Jb hunt,western express,wo molding, LJ Kennedy flatbeds out of auburn me,very good too,just don't like the trucks,small sleepers. These companies I have listed have local,regional and over the road jobs. I personally like Hartt and Pep,I have worked for both of these. |

| Buck if he is a newbie to trucking you know Rick isn't going to hire him unless he has at least ONE YEAR EXPERIENCE unless Hartt changed the policy recently in lew of the driver's out of Auburn quiting and the big Local driver lay-off up in Bangor. TANKER EXPERIENCE go see Scott Grant in Auburn. Dedicated Water Runs for $180/day don't sound like a lot but they guys are doing the run in 9 hours |

| Central Maine Transport In Bangor will hire green. Be prepared for a lot of paper work and they will send you into NY and Boston, so if you dont like the city driving, you need not apply. I dont know if they are under a hiring freeze or not now. The downside is no chin hair, military clean is appreciated by them. They will work you 14 hours a day, up to 80 per week. Free T-Shirts and Sweatshirts to start with. Talk to Gary in Safety. Bi-anual safety meetings (mandatory that everyone should be there, the entire company shows). Otherwise Dead River hires people that can show competency to drive (I never knew that driving a Kenworth would be THAT much different to a Freightliner). Dead River runs 53 foot tri-axle fuel trucks. Max 70 hours per week, usually 3 days down time. Hires only in fall and will run you for 8 months.
