| There are two things that can make it very hard to get on somewhere. A gap in employment and a medical problem. You have two strikes against you. If you were treated for some kind of depression it will even be harder to find work. What your doctor says and what DOT and insurance companies say do not always jive. Companies have to meet guidelines of what their insurance tells them they will cover. Sorry, I know this is not want you want to hear and is not very helpful. Good luck.

| While what you say is indeed not what I wanted to hear, it is exactly what I've been thinking. Thanks for the feedback. Fortunately, the illness I suffered from was not one related to my mental health. Unfortunately, it was related to my body deciding to treat one of its own organs as a foreign body after I survived a massive bacterial infection. |

| Your welcome. Sorry to hear you are having problems. I hope I didn't sound like I was implying that you had mental issues. Just wanted you to know that if you were being treated for depression, the meds and the stress of driving is why companies frown on it. Best of luck to you!

| I didn't work for longer than that, but I did go to school for awhile, which could be counted by some as working, some, but not all, I also hadn't worked at a job for most of my working life, I was self-employed so I didn't have those references. JB Hunt wouldn't hire me because of the work history thing and I didn't apply to others of that strata. I found a job driving truck with the help of a job coach and Voc Rehab, I was too old to get into most careers and I decided I could drive and have been for most of the past three years, now most companies would hire me as long as I meet other criteria. There are companies that will hire you, they may not fit your liking, but they will hire you. Indiana has lots of opportunities, and you are near enough to Michigan and Illinois that you can expand your search. If you have been out of work due to circumstances beyond your control, Voc Rehab would be worth a try but they might have a waiting list, Workforce Development would be another place to go. Get hired to do something temporarily, if you could get on working at a shipping company, or drive shag for a plant, either of these would help you. !8 months down the road, you would have the job history at least quieted down, and have your foot in the door for a driving job. Good luck to you. AJ |

| Using Workforce Development is a good idea. I'd been trying to think of the name of that governmental service, but I'd been coming up blank. Thanks for jogging my memory. |

| It is called Workforce Development in Indiana as well. I'd been confounding the name with the Employment Development Department, which is an institution with a similar function that is native to the state of California. |

| As an addendum to this thread, I would like to thank the individuals who gave me advice, both in the forum and in private messages, and I would also like to report that I will be attending orientation with Transport America on Monday of next week. Hope it goes well. |
