Arrow Local Jobs for Recent Graduates

Hello all, im currently attending a school and my graduation will be very soon. I am starting to look for a company to go with. I am getting married in two months, and we want to buy a house, but If I buy a house I do not want to be home to live in it only on the weekends. I have done some research and I have a few ideas in mind. First off H O Wolding has a dedicated run from buffalo to main. I live 10 min from buffalo. I could be home every other night. I am more intrested in a local company or somthing that would get me home every night, but without any experience I understand these jobs are hard to come by. I have found that yellow freight will hire newbies, if they come from an "accepted training" program. Does anyone know what that entails? I am currently attending NTTS which is a pdti accredited school, does this count as accepted training.
also does anyone know of anyplace in the buffalo or rochester area that would get me home nightly or close to it most of the time. I think conway will do it too but you have to work the docs and I am trying to get out of that too!
Anything that you could contribute would be helpful, as I need to decide soon, thanks

I would check out local grocery, dairy delivery companies etc.. in your area.
You may find a less than "good" company to start with but you could always move on after you get some experience under your belt.
My story is after training I saw an ad for drivers in the paper. They needed drivers bad and were willing to give new drivers a start.I was only making $15.00 per hour and the trucks and trailers were less then perfect. After about 4 months I started cruising Monster.com and some other truck related sites. I started to fill out an online application and I hit the send button by accident. The only thing that went through was my name address and phone. I had to go help my son do something before I went back to do the app again but never got back to it. About two weeks later I get a phone call from a guy saying he only received a little info on me online but he saw I lived in Highland, Indiana and he was going to have an opening about a half hour from my house. It would only start out at $17.00 an hour but go up to $18.00 after a year, would I be interested in interviewing (hell yes!)
Been there ever since. Ther ARE local jobs out there you just have to look hard for them.
Good Luck to you and your family.

I don't drive truck but have been doing my research to get into it and I found Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. hires students. They have local and line haul. Maybe that helps you.

I've talked to several ODFL line haul drivers and they all say they liked it.

Try looking at excavation companies, gravel pits, and companies that do construction work. The starting pay for a rookie isn't great, you probably will be driving an old and worn out truck but you will be home every night and getting experience. Straight out of CDL school I got a job driving a dump truck. Now I'm doing semi-end dumps and side dumps, I'm getting paid the same but it's not bad work and good experience.

Do any of these companies hire someone with 4 months driving a full-sized semi & 53' trailer with 2 incidents on DAC report?

It's been said that companies that do construction type work are sometimes more open to hiring those with spotty criminal or driving records than companies in other areas of the trucking industry. The only thing you can do is call and discuss your situation with them.
