Just wondering, ive been looking at getting into trucking, but had a question about going out with the trainer for the first few weeks. How exactly does it work as far as being out, are you guys together the entire time(Sleep together as well?) Just seems kinda wierd sleeping in the same sleeper with some stranger. Your literally with him 24/7 for 2-4 weeks?? Im not going to let it stop me (I mean, its only a few weeks to a great career) but it just kinda sounds like it would suck. I keep having all the usual newbie thoughts, "what i get stuck with some prick ive gotta literally LIVE with for weeks on end". Whats the story on this? What companys get you Solo the quickest?

Quick solo or trained to make it out there; which would you prefer? Kind of like getting a 4 year degree in the mail in just 3 weeks.:biggrin_25523: The sleeper is a double bunk. Newbie gets the top. There are some real horror stories out there, but when you are an OTR driver where and how do expect to get seperated from your trainer? Would you rather sleep seperate shifts and while you are plumenting down the moutain with questions on how to survive he is napping in the sleeper?:biggrin_25523:

the one that is out there that offers the least amount is watkins shepherd they have you there if you are right out of school for 10 days unpaid. they want to see that you learned what you were suppose to in school. They will pay for your lodging, meals and transportation from your home to the closest terminal.

You know, it may seem weird and tough, but its not that bad. Yes, there are some trainers out there who won't bother training you, and expect you to run team, bu those jerks are few and far between. My trainer was good, he showed and taught me a lot, even if we did run like a team. And like Notarps said, the truck will be a double bunk, and if you will be sleeping while the truck is moving, you can sleep in the bottom bunk (at least my trainer let me).
Yes it is cozy, and if you and your trainer don't get along, it will be more difficult than it already is, but don't worry about that right now- just concentrate on finding the best company for YOU, and then deal with the trainer issue. PLus, if you can sign on with a better company (roehl, for example) then you will most likely get a better trainer.

So good luck and keep us posted!
