| newbie question I read several posts.My question is how do you know what companies have operations in the geographical part of the country where you live or want to work. I went to NC trucking association website and there were only several webpage links to companies in NC. Is there another place to lookup this information? I also went to a specific company website for inexperienced drivers. They had a list of what appeared to be physical exercises? Do you have to pass more than just a DOT physical? Can you tell me how much physical work is required. I know about lumpers--what about the fifth wheel etc. I want to learn all I can before making a decision. Thanks to all the experienced drivers who take the time to post. Your vision of reality benefits the inexperienced.  |

| If you contact a company they will tell you if they hire in your area. Roehl Transport has a terminal in Ellenwood Ga. You can look them up and see if they are right for you. |

| pay attention to who you see on the road rgularily where you live. In NC it won't be hard to find a co. Alot of furniture out there to be hauled |

| You could look in your newspaper and then look up the company on line, or ask here about a certain company. They may not be in your state, but are hiring drivers in your state, my husband drives for Smith out of PA., but we live in Ohio. |

| Maverick is a good company from all I have heard. Flatbed only though. Just a few years back I drove for Omega and I hauled ALLOT of furniture out of the carolinas. Alot may have closed but there is still allot there. |
