Only time I ever had one knock on the door was back in 1983 and I wasn't at a truckstop but sitting in Virginia at a very nice office complex parking lot where I was going to deliver the next day and she left when my wife looked out of the sleeper at her.

Get a CB and drive over to West Memphis, AR. You'll receive an education on what all really goes on.

Hookers, drug dealers, CB shop, truck wash, truck detail...all advertising 24/7. Even on Christmas day.

You can hear 3 drug dealers on any given hour of any given day...at this one location. Although I suspect at least one is a cop.

Your suspicion would be correct. The only reason that the cops do this day in and day out is that they have found out there are people who will fall for this daily in expectation of getting their next high. It's one thing to hunt down drug users, but they are basically opening the jail cell and letting the drub abusers come to them. I went to CDL school at Roadmaster's in West Memphis. We had a lot lizard come to our truck (a Penske rental tractor and an unmarked trailer) while the instructor was fueling it. You should have seen her expression when four curious sets of eyes peered out at her.

She thought jackpot, I'll make some money tonight. So how much did she make?

new hires / new drivers

We started hiring guys right out of driving school for the first time...

we had 4 or 5 guys come into the cincy terminal right out of driving school - at first I thought there would be problems (accidents and stuff) - but the new guys so far have done well.

and it is a pretty sweet gig for your first driving job...

(I would have killed a stranger to be able to step into what I have now as a newbie)

Newbies may want to check options for city and road work at their local Roadway terminal...

For that they'd need doubles and hazmat.

For the Newbies

I believe that more opportunities are opening up everyday for the new student graduates. I think the Insurance companies for those companies that are not self-insured are going to start letting up a little and just require a little more on-the-job training. This needs to happen, especially as the driver shortage keeps growing.

Just my 1.75 Cents.

Just wanted to drop a name if it is legal to do so. But my friend had some of the same problems i have seen people in here have. He just graduated from trucking school and had a DWI from a year ago and there is a company that hired him. It pays from 900 to 1100 a week but you have to unload your own trailer. They pay 20 cent for every box you have to unload. I dont know if I am aloud to say there name but if anyone wants there info just send me a message and I would be more than glad to give you there name. It isnt a bad job and they dont hold MVR's or crimanal backgrounds against you.
