I graduated from my comm college training around the beginning of Sept, and I am almost finished with my time w/ the trainer. It is definitely a change in lifestyle which you must adapt to. My trainer is awesome, so it has made the time go much faster, but I should be on my own by the 1st of Nov.

I am employed with Crete Carrier Corp, their training is a little longer than some, but the pay for training is better as well as the starting pay at the end of training

Hi Bowlwinkle,

Does Crete/Schafer let there drivers have the trucks for home time ?

My Dream of going with May Trucking just leaked away today when they told me trucks had to stay at terminals, I would not be allowed to park a truck at home.

My home is 6 blocks from I-84 exit/entrance, so its not like I would be putting any mileage on the truck to get home, it would just be pulling off the side of the freeway between terminals in ID and OR.

Don't let May go because of that. From what I've heard it's great company and I'm in a big decision between them and Werner. Still don't know which to go, Werner or May? May or Werner?

Hey jedi_tev,

I know May is a good company, It's just that if I can't take my truck home, then it's 5 hours round trip in Good weather to have home time, I really don't want to drive 2-1/2 hours after leaving my truck to get home for a couple of days off, and I say good weather, cuz it would take alot longer if I had to drive slow due to snow and ice or wait for them to get the freeway opened back up.

Now on to Werner, I just spent about an hour going completely thru there website, and If they let a guy stop off at his house for his days of with the truck looks like I will go knocking on there door

Just something to think about. Your truck is going to need regular preventive maintenance as well as any repairs needed. Wouldn’t it be better to have the truck in the shop and the service work done while you are at home instead of needing to take it in and wait on it. I do understand about not wanting to commute, however all trucks require maintenance and sometimes that can be a bit time consuming. Just a thought.

My hubby drove for Werner on a dedicated route out of Tomah, WI late last year and early this year, and he only got to bring his truck home once. The only reason they let his is he was bob-tail, coming past the house, and the roads were total #### (I was on pins and needles until I he got home). Otherwise, I had to drive an 3 hour round trip to pick him up and take him back to his truck. It may be different on their 48 state stuff though. The only full Werner terminal I know of is the Omaha, NE one, but know there are more. They may have something on their website.

I'm with you on this one. There is a lot of stuff you have in your truck that you need at the house to. It sure is nice to have your truck at the house when you want to do something to and or in it.

Has any one heard if Swift allows the trucks to come home on the way through? I'm 5 hours from the nearest terminal, it would not be a deal breaker for me but 10 hours of my time is just as valuable to me as 10 hours of their time to them, they do have 38 terminals around the country to take care of the trucks while your on sleeper or off time.
