Starting out for rookies

A question that is often asked is how does a rookie get his first job with no experience. Well, I have a few suggestions.

One option is to talk to construction and/or aggregate companies that use dump trailers. This would pay either hourly or percentage.

You could also seek out a local flatbed outfit that hauls building materials. This doesn't pay well as building materials is not the best paying freight, but they would also hire rookies.

If neither of those is possible, you could also talk to rigging and crane companies. You would be hauling parts for the cranes to be set up at the job sites, and sometimes even the objects to be lifted by the cranes.

This pays a good hourly wage, but your responsibilities would include things other than driving. If that's not a problem, than this option may be an interesting one.

Funny the ideas ppl who have never been in a truck have. I love the ones who say we drove cross country an vacation and loved it . can't see how it could be too hard.

Well, I had a pretty good ole time when my wife and I drove to Florida on our honeymoon. I put my CB in the car, and she was shocked by what she heard, especially when we went by the T/A in Jessup at about 4 A.M.

We made it from here to Orlando in 14 hours, not wasting any time.

I take it that's about the time the church groups start singing in Jessup?

Probably gonna show ho green I am.

I am a new student driver. I have heard the term lot lizzard on several occasions. Is this really a problem out there on the road. I am from Arkansas and just could not imagine this goes on out there as often as I hear.

Well, it most certainly does.

Here's what you do. Put a CB in your car, and frequent the truckstops near you overnight. They troll (pardon the pun) ch.19 and instruct a potential customer to switch to another channel to work out their ...uh... arrangements.

You may witness one climb out of one truck and hop right into another one.

And if you happen to see one that's actually sort of attractive, rather than one that looks like she got run over by one of the trucks she just jumped out of, chances are she's a cop, and someone's about to get locked up.
