Have you been to trucking school yet? If so you can try Service Trucking out of Eustis, Florida he is a very honest man. When we had the chance I wish we had gone to work for him. We have moved out of Florida now and we worked for Covenant Transport. Big booboo. Anyway try Service. Good Luck!

I read your post brother and i'm also entering the otr career out of psl. I worked for rinker as a concrete mixer driver for a little over a year, that was my first trucking job here in the states. I'm sure you read about armellini where they state as a fact first year drivers average 59 k p year. Due to the huge amount of enlisting new recruit advertising they have a problem with turnover. I literally am going to pay to see their claim, $300.00 for a refresher course to pass the roadtest. I'm all about safety, need the dough and am is easy to get along with. Thing's should work out anywhere as long as they pay me enough and have safe equipment wich seems to be the case there. Good luck!

yep we went to TDI in Sanford, they really promote covenant. Just like you it was big mistake they tell a crap load of lies. I don't drive for them anymore, we are going with Hogan. Service is OTR we have seen there trucks everywhere. The guy is honest and tells it like it is. So I listened to my husband on that one. Anyway that is water under the bridge, it's been over a year now so we have a variety of companies to work for.

I'll give Service a call tomorrow... Ive lived in the Deltona area for 22 years and it woud be nice to have a local outfit to work for. I just hope he will train us as a team. My wife refuses to go OTR for a month alone with a guy she doesnt know and honestly I dont blame her. Hope to meet you there... TDI is going to be a real drag... $6,000.00 each! Even financing 1/2 will deplete our savings to nothing... but what can you do? Midwest Coast Transport based in Sioux Falls,SD has their own top notch training school. They also have a terminal in your back yard in Sanford. They have a fleet of local trucks that go out to the farms and greenhouses in Fl to pick up plants and bring them back to the Sanford warehouse to be consolidated into ltl loads. During the busy season, you will leave Sanford with a ltl foilage load and then reload right back to Sanford to get another one.

I highly suggest you talk to them before you spend $6000 for school(that is a ludicrous amount...I know the local com. college here in TN costs $1100.). If you want any more details from a former driver(I started my career there 13+ years ago and stayed for 5 years)just let me know. I also have several friends who are still there.

Yep, I think Covenant is the only company that will train teams together. That is the only reason we went with them. The training period was tough and you think you are not going to make it. Three people in a truck is hard and if you get a bad trainer it is even worse. We had 2 trainers before it was all said and done. One thing to remember, once you finish school the only companies that will hire students are the training companies and they are getting money from the federal Government to if you finish the training period with them. Most of these companies don't really give a rat's ### about you after that. IT's just the way that it is. The best advice I can offer you is to just stick it out and before you know it you will have a few months in and you can move on to other companies. The recruiters will lie and tell you what you want to hear, just keep that in mind. Stay in touch with me no matter what and Tim and I will help you as much as we can.

I'd love to know more about them. I called today and they are 100% owner operator so we would have to be picked up by one of their fleets... They dont train husband and wife teams together, but they did say they could check into getting a female trainer for my wife atleast. I'd love more inofrmation as it seems riskier on the outside looking in to work for a small fleet leased to MCT when you would have a 1 year committment and the trucking company you work for is not based in your state although MCT does have the terminal in Sanford. I guess it just seems a bit more confusing with regards to maintenance, trucks, pay, etc. Id be grateful if you could elaborate more.
