    Hello:

I don't have any experience. I just want to join a company as a new driver that will provide me with good training, decent pay, and if they claim some things, I would like to see them in writing. I am not looking for the perfect company, just a good company. Do you have anythingn in mind???

I would suggest getting your permit.
The tests are written and not hard. Air brakes, combination and General knowelege.

If you have it when you get to the school you will only have to pay the refresher cost. I cannot say I agree with this, but it is how they have it set up. So it will be 2000 instead of 3000.
With there 30 a week going with your 50 it will be paid off in 8 months. Or earler if you want.

    Hello:

Thanks for the information! I will take the NY CDL exam soon. I wanted to take it last week but I had to assist my father in his business. He has poor health so I help him every summer, of course with no pay. :) So thanks again and one more thing I have to ask you before I go. I have been reading posts on the net specifically, from the truckers report, and I have seen some people saying that Central Refrigerated and Swift are tied to one another. Is that true or are they completely separate companies? Personally, I would never want to work for Swift.
Their reputation is flawed and they have all sorts of problems. From how they treat their drivers to incompetant dispatchers and faulty equipment. So far everyone I have spoken to told me that Swift is terrible and I should stay far away from them. In addition to their poor pay packages as well. As far as Central was concerned I read mixed reviews. Some from disgruntled drivers to happy ones. So like all companies may or may not have problems, but I am sure like all things out there that are work related have some issues to contend with. I know that there are no perfect companies. All I want is to start fresh, work hard, get good pay and hopefully make a career out of trucking.
I left teaching only because the union sucks, the pay sucks and the kids are horrible. To give you an idea about how much I was being paid as a teacher, well I made $1,122 every two weeks. Mind you the benefits were good. I am still covered until the end of this month, but you still have a copay and the prescriptions are still a bit pricey, but nevertheless I had benefits and nothing beats a job that provides its workers with benefits. I am hoping I can make more each week in a year from now than I was making this year as a teacher. Its funny that I went to college, got my BA and MA and this is what I have to look forward too. When I recieved my MA they told me that I got a $50 bonus on my pay check. $50 dollars??? Wow!!! That doesn't even match how much money I put into going to graduate school! It doesn't even pay to bother going to school for all of that time, wasted time to make so little, and have to deal with kids that have the ability to destroy your life if they choose to.
I left on good terms and decided that I needed a new career. I was tired of being in four walls each week. I was tired period! So right now I just want to make the right moves. I am glad though, that by getting the permit I can in fact pay less and bring home more. That is very good. Thanks again.

Swift is a large company that is traided on the stock exchange.
Jerry use to own the majority shares of it, was the ceo ect. That was several years ago. In this past year he repurchased his majority shares of the company, for several billion dollars.
I have talked to allot of there drivers that are very excited about this, and think that this will help turn the company around. Only time will tell.

Central was bought by Jerry while he was still ceo of swift. It has never been owned by swift however, and is its own company. Though I have been told that we can use Swift terminals in an emergency.
I dont have a full list but Jerry owns about 16 trucking companys. He has looked into buying several other large companys, but he is getting too many as it is, and eventually the government will stop him from buying more.

So to answer your question more briefly. Yes The majority shares of both companys are owned by the same person, but they are seperate companys. You can find the whole lowdown on this site somewhere on the whole Jerrys club thing. Some like him and some hate him.
