I'm starting with Schneider school in Green Bay at the end of August and then to Gary IA for Tanker training. They told me 2500-2800 miles per week is what to expect. And 30cpm.

Is this a decent amount of miles? I'm a rookie.

If that's the mileage you actually get on asteady basis, then the mileage is okay. As always, the devil is in the details and you need to look closely at them. How much is paid for detention time, and how long do you give a customer for free. Do you get paid for time spent tank wasing, or do you have to drive around and find a tank. Do you do drop and hooks, or do you stick with one tank and wash it out frequently. Where are you running, in what states and at what times of day. How long do you stay at 30 cpm and how rapidly does it rise with your experience. What kinds of chemicals are you going to haul and what safety gear goes along with that. No fun wearing a bunny suit, goggles, and a respirator in Jul/Aug.

All those things need to be looked at to make the call. And you won't rack up that mileage at first, but will have to work up to it learning how to be effective at the job, and gaining the trust and confidence of your dispatchers before you find yourself getting runs that will get you good weekly mlieage.

Here is how I handled things at Schneider, I was running for them like crazy. I was getting alot of the newbie loads. At one point I showed up 2 days early for a delivery and totally freaked out the receiver. After this I had a heart to heart with my STL, I told him I needed a tighter schedule I could handle it. And after that I started making some decent money. Do your time and get out, btw you will be getting a raise soon. Ask about it.

Yea, I think the pay is going up in September.

And I will ask about all those other things like detention and the rest. I was told it wasn't going to be fuel but stuff like Windex is one example she gave. And very rarely would I be going to New York. Most runs are East of the Rockies. I'm in Wisconsin and there is an Operating Center right here so that part sounded good. I'll shoot her an email monday and get some more details. I appreciate the heads up on that stuff.

    Thanks for the replys.

i know it's a 4 + year old thread but after searching and searching I am wondering has anyone ever detailed the entire Schneider Bulk training process from start to finish in a blog or through various posts?
